Focus on one artist or one set of works
Investigate and respond to their techniques and approaches
Describe what interests you about their work and say what you want to do next
Evidence: Worked up transcriptions
Full responses;
When you come to provide evidence of looking at artists, you have to remember that the subject is 75% visual art and only a maximum of 25% written material.
You have to make most of your responses in visual language not just in words
You will get more marks for using visual language as soon as possible
Show the range of techniques and processes that you have learned from looking at an artist's work
Make an abstract of the marks, colours, techniques:
You can start off by looking at an artist's work
Then make an abstract reresentaiton of what he or she has done
Then push that to meet your own needs - apply it to your subject matter
It doesn't mater if it is just a 'try out' and doesn't look solid or well thought through
This is you 'adopting and adapting' what you have learned to suit your purposes
This is what the exam board want to see from you
Although you need to spend much more time on visual information, you also need to add some annotation.
Don't try to copy anything from Wikipedia. Don't bother with biographical information. Go straight for what is useful to you.
Remember: it's all about you:
Describe the techniques they used
Say why they worked the way they did
Discuss how these techniques combine to create effects
Evaluate how the effects combined to create meaning for viewers
Say what impact this has on your work
How could you use some of these techniques, what would it allow you to do differently?
