Aether Articles:
The first Aether article was the first piece I had ever written for a college. Surprisingly, it turned out pretty okay for a first attempt. I tried to put across some cautionary information in a humorous way, so that the reader would not be forced to read something dry.
The second Aether article was in fact a group effort. I worked on the piece along with Rachel Dias and Ruchira Kagita. We decided to interview the Principal, a few teachers and a few students in order to receive their opinions about a then political situation. The process of interviewing, taking down notes and compiling all the information into one piece was quite interesting.
The ‘Letters from Porto’ article was my attempt at putting forth my personal experiences of traveling to a foreign country. I felt that someone who was thinking of traveling to Portugal might want to know what the student life is like in Porto. It was a rather informal way of writing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt like I was actually writing to a friend.
For Aether 7, I didn’t quite remember how an op-ed worked, so I checked out a few sites that explained how one can go about it. It was an easy piece to write and I didn’t struggle much. There was no need to collect any information as the piece was based entirely on my own opinion.
Meraki Issue 1:
Short Piece:
My role:
I really like to write, and writing for a magazine is definitely a lot of fun. I took my time to write this piece because I wanted to do a good job with it, and I hope the audience enjoys reading it.
The piece:
The writing style for this piece is ‘feature’. As the theme was dating, I decided to write something for people who are not into dating, that way we could have a more inclusive approach. Often, people who are single feel left out when their friends are all busy going on dates, so I thought it would be nice to write something about what single people could do to make them feel better, especially given the circumstances.
Long Piece:
My role:
As the writer of this piece, I had to do plenty of research in order to get my facts straight. Writing about incidents that take place around you is easy as you can interview the locals and go check out the site, but writing about something that has taken place far far away isn’t.
The piece:
I’m a nature lover, so writing about man’s destruction of nature is one of my favourite topics to write about. I don’t need to take too much effort in thinking about what vocabulary to use, or what might suit the theme as I am used to reading such articles in magazines, on the internet and so on. Writing these pieces gives me an adrenaline rush and I like to channelise my thoughts through such articles.
Meraki Issue 2:
Role:
As a writer, I thoroughly enjoyed taking interviews and putting down whatever everyone had to say. It was interesting to see how people look at aesthetics in various art forms, different in some ways, but similar in most.
Articles:
In the first article, I had to make a list of appropriate questions which I had to send to all the people I interviewed. It was fun bringing together all their opinions and views.
In the second article, once again I had to make a list of questions. It was nice finding out what it’s like to start your own business and how one who is involved in the fashion industry needs to keep up with the trends.
