The world is full of super heroes and super villains except for one person named Prodigy. All the villains are trying to abduct Prodigy and the heroes are trying to save her every single day. On one such day….
Beta: Ah ha! Now I’m going to abduct you!!!
Prodigy: Oh no! I want to practice the piano….I have a concert next week….could we please please please take the piano along?
Beta: Ummm...okay. Sure. Let’s go now!
Beta’s superpower is to teleport things and people, so she teleports them and the piano.
Prodigy: Oh this is a new place… I’m impressed! (watches Beta try to tie up her legs and arms) Hey! How do you expect me to practice like this?
Beta: Oh sorry. Oh God who’s that….
Kim:I’m here!!!
Beta: Here? That’s such a weird name….
Prodigy: that’s not her name!!! (starts singing the theme song of Kim Possible while Beta and Kim start to fight)
Beta somehow manages to kill Kim
Prodigy: Oh!!! (Taps the floor) One! Two! Three! Beta wins!!! Wait what? That’s a first!!!
THE END
We were asked to write a play in class and this is what we ended up writing.
Two Act Drama
Act 1
Summer evening. A few children from the ages of 7 to 10 are playing a few games on the road. The neighbourhood is peaceful. There is no traffic.
Jake: Wow! That was fun…. I knew we’d win. Boys are the best….You girls stand no chance against us when we play basketball.
Anna: Do get off your high horse. Need I remind you of how we thrashed you boys last week when the older kids joined us? Millie dodged three of you at one time and scored a three pointer. Maybe we should have a re match…
Jo: I don’t think so Anna… I mean you guys can play, but I need to go home.. I need to study for the English test we have tomorrow.
Roy: Wait what!? We have a test tomorrow? Shoot!!! When did the teacher tell us about that?
Jake: (rolling his eyes) Two weeks ago! You never remember we have tests Roy, that’s your speciality.
Roy: Who cares! Everyone knows Em is going to get full marks in the test. I’m not even going to try….Say, where was she today? I didn’t see her in class….
Jake: Yeah, neither did I…. What about you girls?
Anne and Jo: We didn’t either.
Jo: Do you think she’s sick?
Anne: I don’t know. Let’s go see.
The children walk down the lane towards the last house. It’s a pretty blue house with a neat garden. Woof, Em’s dog’s chain is lying on the porch.
The children: Em!!! Em!!! Are you home?
When no one answers, they walk up the stairs and ring the bell. Mrs. Rosewood, Emma’s mother opens the door.
Mrs. Rosewood: Why hullo children! How are you? Do come in.
Jake: Thank you Mrs. Rosewood. We were wondering where Emma was. We didn’t see her at school today and she didn’t come to play either. Is she sick?
Mrs. Rosewood: She’s not sick. But she’s been crying in her room all day. You see, Woof was sick all night….and he passed away in the morning. The doctor said he died of old age and he wasn’t in pain. But Em can’t believe he isn’t with us anymore. She won’t even eat.
Jo: May we see her ma’am?
Mrs. Rosewood: Of course, dear. Come along, follow me.
They walk up the stairs leading to Em’s bedroom. Sobs can be heard from outside. The children exchange sad looks, not knowing what to say.
Mrs. Rosewood: Em dear, your friends are here. They want to meet you. Can I let them in?
Em: Okay.
She opens the door to reveal Em sitting on her hunches with an album in her lap and eyes as red as tomatoes.
Anne: Oh Em. We’re so sorry.
All the children hug her tight. Emma begins to cry again. She talks between sobs.
Emma: Why did he leave so soon? I feel so lonely. I have no one to go out on walks with me…. No one to play with me when I’m alone at home. I miss him so much!
Jo: We know you do. We miss him too. He was old you know. He needed some rest. You should get some rest too. We have a test tomorrow, and everyone knows you will top the class. But you need to eat and sleep. You must make Woof proud.
Emma: I guess.
Jake: It’s getting late now. Perhaps it’s time we went home.
Roy: Yeah. We should.
Emma: I guess I’ll see you in school tomorrow then. Bye.
The children: Bye Em. See you in school.
Act 2
The children leave the house a little disturbed.
Anne: It’s going to be so hard not having Woof around. I feel terrible for Em. She must be so lonely.
Jake: Yeah… It’s going to be a tough night for her.
Roy: She doesn’t seem like she’s ever going to smile again. I feel so sad.
Jo: I have an idea that might cheer her up…. So listen up.
The children huddle up as Jo whispers her plan to them. They all agree and decide to part ways.
The next day they all walk back home together after school.
Roy: I’m pretty sure I’m going to fail the test. Serves me right…. I should’ve studied for it.
Em: You’re not the only one. I don’t think I did too well either. I couldn’t stop thinking about Woof the entire time. (her eyes well up with tears)
Jake: Oh don’t worry Em. You’ll score well. You always do.
Jo: Wait up you guys. I’m going to run home and come back in a minute.
The children: Okay!
Em: Why is she going home and then coming back?
Roy: I don’t know… She must have forgotten something.
Anne, Jake and Roy look at each other with hidden excitement while Em just stares at the ground blankly. In a minute or so, Jo arrives with a basket in her arms. The basket is covered with a piece of cloth.
Jo: Here you go Em. This is for you. A gift from all of us.
Em: But what is it?
Jake: Go on! Open It! It won’t bite!
Em: Huh? Ok.
She takes off the cloth only to discover a tiny puppy sleeping peacefully under.
Em: Oh my God! Where did you find this puppy?
Jo: The neighbour’s dog had just littered a few weeks ago. They wanted to give the puppies away because there were too many of them, so I asked them if I could gift one of them to a friend. They were very happy to give him to me. He’s not Woof. But he needed a home and it looked like you needed a friend. So there you go!
Em: He’s so sweet. Thank you so much you guys! He is so sweet. He’ll never replace Woof. But I love him so much already. He looks a lot like him too! I’m going to name him Woof Jr.
The children were happy to see Em smile again. They walked her and Woof Jr. home and then went their separate ways.
