After Act 1 of 'The Lion and the Jewel', Sidi seems to be a simple tribal girl who is easily flattered and think no end of herself. She appears to believe that she is invincible and that she can outshine just about anyone in the tribe.
Lakunle seems to be a man who is trying to ape the west with his ideas of things such as 'western romance' and 'development'. He uses flowery language which has no impact whatsoever on the other tribals. He seems to be insecure about losing Sidi as a prospective wife, whom he claims to be in love with.
A Pantomime is defined as a type of theatrical entertainment, mainly for children, which involves music, topical jokes, and slapstick comedy. It is based on a fairy tale or nursery story, usually produced around Christmas. It originated through Roman mime, in which performers express meaning through gestures accompanied by music.
The dance of the lost traveller is an enactment of an incident that seems to have happened in the past. Lakunle plays the role of a stranger whose car breaks down. He is later shown to be wandering in the forest when he chances upon Sidi, who accuses him of harassment. Sidi complains to the other villagers who end up taking the stranger to the Bale. The Bale feels pity towards the stranger and has a feast in his honour during which the stranger takes innumerable pictures of Sidi with the Bale's consent.
