We are officially closed for Summer Break! Mr. Wheelock looks forward to seeing everyone back next school year!
7th & 8th Grade Choir Students are eligible to participate in the All-Region Choir audition process. The auditions require the students to learn 3 songs. PDF copies of the songs as well as practice tracks are included on this page to help with the preparation processes.
This music is HARD. We work on learning these songs for months to prepare for the auditions. Below you can find the audition information:
Audition Date: January 25th, 2025

All-Region Choir is an auditioned* honor choir comprised of 7th/8th grade choir students in school districts located in TMEA Region 5. Every year the choir directors of Region 5 will hold auditions to select the members for that year's choirs. These selected students will then combine together for a day of rehearsals with a guest clinician director and then perform a single concert. The All-Region Choir Concert is a high quality musical performance that is often considered by students to be a highlight of their choir experience in middle school.
*The competitive blind audition process has each student perform a blind audition for a panel of judges. The judge panel will rank every student from best to worst and the top students in each voice part (48 for the female parts, 24 for the male parts) are selected as members of the All-Region Choir. Because this is a competitive event, all auditioning students must be UIL Academically eligible at the time of auditions.

To prepare for All-Region Choir, a student must first get the materials. Every auditioning student will need to have the sheet music for their 3 audition songs. Links to PDF copies of this music can be found at the top of this page. BCMS Choir students will also receive physical copies of their music in class from Mr. Wheelock.
(Please note that the audition music is different for male and female students. Female students should get the songs for the "Treble" choir and male students should get the songs for the "Tenor/Bass" choir.)
Next, each student must decide which voice part they will be learning and auditioning for. There are 3 voice parts to choose from.
The voice parts for the Treble (female) ensemble are...
Soprano 1 (the highest part)
Soprano 2 (the middle part)
Alto (the lowest part)
The voice parts for the Tenor/Bass (male) ensemble are...
Tenor 1 (the highest part)
Tenor 2 (the middle part)
Bass (the lowest part)
It is important that every student picks the part that will suit them the best. If the part a student picks has notes that are outside of that student's vocal range, they should consider picking a different voice part.
Finally it is time for the student to begin learning how to sing their part of all three songs. Students should use the voice part tracks linked at the top of this page to listen to an example recording of their part for each song. While listening, students should follow along with in their sheet music. Repeat this process until the student is familiar enough with the part to begin singing along with the track. Repeat this process until the student has mastered singing their part and can attempt to sing with the accompaniment track (background piano only).
Once the student can sing all three songs by themselves with the accompaniment track, they have fully learned their music, but...
there is still more work to do.
After the student has learned all of their notes and words, they can work to perfect it by adding in all the extra musical elements. Remember that this is a competitive audition and each student should try to utilize all musical directions to stand out to the judges. For this step, students are encouraged to work with Mr. Wheelock after school to add elements such as dynamics (volume), articulation, pronunciation, and other musical elements.
In the final weeks leading up to the audition day, students are encouraged to begin to mentally prepare for the stress of the blind audition. At this time, all students will receive instructions as to what cuts (small snippets of the songs) they will be singing in the audition. Practice the process of walking in to the audition room, singing the cuts, and leaving the room. Doing this will help set up students for sucess on the audition day.
