Acquire skills in reading, listening, writing, and some speaking in French in a way you can understand. Develop language confidence discussing topics such as families, school, daily life and history. Gain cultural awareness of Francophone countries such as France, Quebec, and Northern Africa (Senegal, Algeria, Ivory Coast). French 1 is a safe spot to use the language and to make mistakes. Hearing and using French every day in class is a great place to start!
*Note: French 1 at Chippewa Falls Middle School is equivalent to French 1 at the high school level.
Continue to develop the main skills that you learned in French 1 by reading short books and essays, writing creative stories, listening to spoken French, and speaking with increased fluency. Use French every day in a variety of engaging in-class activities, with a focus on being able to discuss living in the city/country, daily life and healthy habits, and what’s right and wrong. Cultural topics include celebrities in France, Paris’ monuments, Belgium, and Cameroon! You can expect your skills to expand a lot this year in French class.

Transition to a more in-depth understanding of the French language, and build on your speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing skills. Use stories, music, reading, journal writing, and participation in interactive activities to expand your knowledge of structures and vocabulary. Develop a cultural awareness of Francophone Africa. Discuss topics like sports and hobbies, cooking and mealtimes, travel, and recounting the past. Develop the skills necessary to become a global citizen in any career in your future.
Refine your French skills through a variety of conversations, journal entries, presentations and other interactive activities. Prioritize communication with increased fluency in the past, present, and future tenses. Learn new vocabulary using themed units interesting to you, such as shopping, dating, healthy lifestyle, daily routine, and The Little Prince. French will be used daily to interact and improve interpersonal communication skills. This course will help you prepare to take college placement exams and college level language courses. Maximize your career opportunities in any post-secondary path you choose.
Apply your previous knowledge of vocabulary and grammar to new contexts. Use your French to complete bavardages, journal entries, a movie critique, skits and other activities focusing on communication. Prioritize increased fluency in past, present and future/conditional tenses. Learn using themed units such as housing and chores, your future after Chi-Hi, the French revolution, and Impressionism. Prepare for success in taking university placement exams and/or the AP exam. The course is conducted in French and students are expected to communicate in French every day. Set yourself apart with your global awareness and cultural competence!
