This center was established on December 2, 2018. It is an academic center for scientific research which investigates all aspects of domestic and international crimes committed throughout the history, anywhere against the Kurds, and the other national , racial, ethnic and religious groups, particularly the Anfal crime.

This center is an academic organization, which is located in the center of the biggest genocide crime against humanity since the Second World War, namely Chamchamal city and the Anfal operations. Chamchamal is the center of the two most catastrophic phases of the attack, stages three and four. Our center aims at documenting genocide crimes against the Kurds and conducting scientific research on them in the hope to gather the necessary evidence and preparing them for a trial at any time, as well as protecting them for the next generation.
Objectives
The Research Center of Charmo University is dedicated to Genocide crimes, and has many long and short-term goals, among which include:
Gathering all the scientific abilities form inside and outside the university in this center and conducting various scientific researches such as (psychological, social, legal, political, historical, economical…etc.), specifically for all the different dimensions of Anfal and Genocide.
Introducing the world to Kurdish people's genocide.
Spreading awareness and keeping these crimes alive in the minds of individual Kurds and humanity.
Documenting the genocide and Anfal crimes against the Kurdish people and humanity.
Finding the necessary psychological solution for the victims of these crimes.
Cooperating with similar centers on the local and international levels
Establishing a museum to document and protect the evidence of the Anfal and genocide crime victims.
Attempting to set up a genocide - special education program .
Mission
Conducting scientific research and documenting the records. Raising awareness and achieving the goals required for any genocide.
Importance
1. Identifying the crimes committed against the Kurdish people as a genocide. It takes a lot of hard work and effort. Also, taking advantage of academics to document and researching the scientific, historical, social dimensions in this field. Therefore,) Charmo University Research Center for Crimes of Anfal and Genocide as the first university center at the level of Kurdistan Region is doing this work, along with other services and activities. The main goal of this center is to identify the crimes done against the Kurds.
2. The history of Kurdistan is full of tragic crimes. Kurds have been through many tough situations and many types of killings and annihilations, which they are are known as international crimes, but It couldn't be researched academically and the undeniable evidence of these detestable crimes weren’t gathered. Furthermore, these crimes were not identified as international crimes. That's why we consider the existence of this center necessary and important.
3. The crime of genocide and Anfal has happened to Kurdistan at a certain time and until this moment, the existence of these crimes continues on Kurds and Kurdistan and a other socities, especially nations that do not have their own identity, or who are minorities in their own country. Also, the evidences could not be scientifically and academically assembled in a center. That's why they couldn't be internationalized and become a reason for preventing the possibility of repetition of these crimes. The criminals must be punished. In addition, the victims of this crime have also not been treated psychologically. For the reasons above, having a center to investigate these crimes is necessary.
4. Charmo University, located in Chamchamal district, an area that has the highest number of victims of Anfal . Thus, it is important to have this center here so that we can gather the most necessary evidences of the crimes and the consequences of this crime. At the same time, collecting evidence from the survivors and survivors of the Anfal crime and investigating, classifying and editing information and documenting them and protecting them in a scientific way. The purpose of documenting these evidences is to help students, readers, researchers and applicants in this case. No doubt receiving data and information from the language of the victims of these crimes themselves, who are alive is regarded as scientific work.
