It is important that the student complete all college application steps (College application, FAFSA, SAT/ACT) early. It may also be helpful if the student obtains a SC State ID, Learner’s Permit, or Driver’s License as soon as possible in order to prove the student’s SC residency.
Use the verified parent’s tax ID whenever possible or fill in 000-00-0000 for the parent’s social security number in absence of a tax ID or government issued SSN. While the FAFSA may be submitted online, the parent must complete a “FAFSA on the Web Signature Page” and mail it to the address indicated on the form. Two to 3 weeks after mailing the signature page, FAFSA will provide a Student Aid Report (SAR) to both the student and colleges indicated on the FAFSA application. Completion of the FAFSA opens the door for a student to be considered for other financial aid opportunities.
If the student or parent has any questions or concerns regarding completing the FAFSA application they should contact FAFSA at (800) 433-3243.
