We will continue our focus on our last IB Unit: Sharing the Planet.
Remember to read to your child daily.
Listen to Storyline-Online throughout the week as well as the the videos included below.
Watch ALL of my lessons on our class Facebook Page. And please add photos of your own. Thank you!
Play outside multiple times a day. Put down those tablets/video games unless you are using for school activities. There is so much you can learn from nature while outside. If we were in school right now we would be doing so many walking field trips to study nature. We would be going to the MUSC Urban garden(hopefully we will get there one day soon). The spring time is so beautiful here in Charleston. Please take pictures of what you are seeing in nature and we can learn about them together through our various social media sites.
This story is a favorite! Khalilah asked almost daily to listen to this story again. It is a story about a girl who loved to hula hoop.
Listen to more stories on "Storyline Online".
Remember to read to your child daily. Always ask questions after reading to check for comprehension.
Use the journals included in their "WORK BAGS" to reflect using drawings.
I will be posting "read-alouds" on our private Facebook Page that are related to our IB UNIT "Sharing the Planet" and some that are favorites.
In Math, You can find things to measure lengths in your house. You could use blocks, strips of paper, etc... Also focus on more/less/fewer, shorter/longer/taller, and lighter/heavier using any objects you have around the house. Use objects around the house to create patterns. You could use cereal that has different shapes or colors or you could use blocks that are different colors.
Writing: Practice writing letters of the alphabet. Tracing letters with their fingers. The above video is good and he has songs about tracing the alphabet and the kids love doing that.
ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOUR CHILD LEARNS BEST THROUGH PLAY AT THIS AGE. SO MAKE WHAT YOU DO FUN. AND THEY NEED TO BE PLAYING OUTSIDE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THEIR MINDS ARE LIKE SPONGES AND THEY ARE TAKING IN ALL THAT YOU PROVIDE! I KNOW YOU ARE ALL DOING A GREAT JOB!!
Hickory, dickory Dock,
The mouse ran up the clock.
The clock struck one,
The mouse ran down,
Hickory, dickory, dock.
Practice this poem a few times a day. You will be able to say it all by yourself in no time. Can you find the words that rhyme?
Monday: March 23-March 27, 2020
Listen to some stories on "Storyline Online" if you have computer access daily. This is a free website. It's great! If you don't have computer access you can have a parent read a few stories to you daily. Parents always ask lots of questions once the story is complete. Main characters, problem in story, beginning, middle and end of story...this will help with comprehension. Use the books that were included in your "Work Bags" if necessary.
Answer a prompt( draw a picture of something you remember from the story) in your "writing journal" relating to the story they heard: The children can draw pictures in their personal journals we went in their "Work Bags"
Our Nursery Rhyme for this week will be:
Rain, Rain Go Away.
Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day,
Little (your child's name)wants to play.
Rain, rain go away.
Practice this rhyme with parents multiple times a day. Just like we did in class. Talk about the "words that sound the same", rhyming words.
Counting using 1:1 correspondence:
Count items in your house: How many spoons, forks, etc... door knobs, lego blocks, crayons, any items you can find around the house. You can also use the small colored shapes that were included in their "Work Bags". Make sure your child touches each item as they count.
Rote counting: Have your child starting at 1 and see how high they can go!
Practice writing first and some of you last names daily. Use the sheets from the "Work Bags" provided.
Use the colored "cutting" sheets to strengthen those fine-motor muscles. They are almost experts in cutting. You will be impressed. But remember keep an eye on them because you don't want them cutting their little sisters hair!!
Always let them open all containers on their own. Have them zip and button by themselves. If they say, "I can't do that," you say, We don't say that here, we say, "I can try"!!! They need to become independent with all of these fine-motor tasks so they will be successful in kindergarten next year!!
Moms and Dads I know this has been a difficult time for you...so I thought I would post some "cute" quotes that made me laugh. I raised (and am still raising) 4 children... so I feel your frustration!!! Hang in there and please know I am here to help... so let me know if I can do anything for you!!
CAUGHT READING!
Molly and Maddie reading together at home!! LOVE THIS!!
Ms. Heusner's "friendly frog" she found while gardening. We will need to find out what all she is planting!. Sharing the Planet with so many creatures!!! And how much fun to grow your own food!!
Look at Big 5 year old Carter!!! We will celebrate when we see you next! You will get to go to the TREASURE BOX!!!
I saw this beautiful bird in my yard while gardening. This a male, as they are bright red and the females only have a little red color. They are song birds.
These are some of the shrimp I helped catch with my husband. He throws the net and my job is to pick the shrimp up and put them in the live-well. I wear gloves because shrimp have "little pokers" and I don't like getting poked! Ha! I will bring some shrimp to share with you when we see you again. I know Carter loves eating shrimp.
This is a juvenile grey heron. That means he is young. He will get bigger.
