Translators and interpreters are proficient to the extent they know specialized terms, the ethics of interpreting and translating, the need for confidentiality and have ease of written and oral expression.
Translators and interpreters are trained individuals. Translators and interpreters cannot be students, siblings, friends or untrained staff members.
Parents are informed of WIDA testing requirements for all EL students.
Parents have access to school/district information in a language other than English including: codes of conduct, handbooks, report cards, complaint procedures, special education or RTI notices, health notices, etc.
Parents have the appropriate tools to make meaningful decisions regarding their child’s education.
Communication with parents is documented.
Language assistance is provided if requested.
Cultures are integrated throughout the school activities.
Documents exist indicating translations are funded by general funds.
