What does learning look like in Primary under the hybrid model?
All students have the opportunity to come to school following a model of alternation, one day at home and the next at school, the learning for each day will follow the same schedule that is shared via Seesaw, our digital learning platform.
Students who are attending school participate in lessons in their rooms (specialist teachers will come to the homeroom) and they will complete the same learning that is on Seesaw but it will be delivered face to face. In some cases students on campus may not submit their work to Seesaw as the teachers have worked with them in person and will have given feedback in class.
*Students attending school should check the Seesaw schedule for any required materials.
For those students who will be learning from either because they are not attending school yet or because it is their off day the following structure applies:
Lesson plans and activity links are shared on Seesaw by 5pm the day before. You can see a sample schedule here
The schedule shows the times for each lesson, which teacher is providing the synchronous lesson and the link to their call, as well as the link to the Seesaw activity. This model allows families to choose if they follow a synchronous schedule with live video feeds from our classroom or to work at their own pace using the videos in the Seesaw activities. We know that many families, especially those with young children can find it difficult to spend the whole day joining calls the staff are planning for both.
For all lessons teachers will create video content and written explanations of the learning shared on a daily Seesaw schedule with activities to complete. All students, whether they attend school or not, will have the schedule and activities shared.
Should students join synchronous calls, which will be conducted via the recently installed cameras and microphones, they will be required to have adult supervision at home for the duration of the call. As such we recognise that not all families will be able to commit to these meetings and therefore they are not compulsory, but we encourage those who can, to attend. We believe that this structure will set the children and their families up to establish personalised routines at home and to get the exposure to learning content and language that is needed.
In addition, Learning Assistants will be available for 30 minutes Monday to Thursday from 3.45-4.15pm to answer questions for remote learners.
Please be aware that due to the hybrid structure, the way feedback is given and work is approved on Seesaw, will be adjusted. Staff may need longer to approve work and give feedback, the feedback may be from someone different to normal, or the feedback may be shared in a different way to what you are used to. If your child is coming to school then activities may not show as complete at the end of the day. This does not mean the activity must be completed at home, it is just because the work was completed at school and nothing needed to be uploaded.
