I trust that this letter finds you all well and healthy - and getting ready for the festive season - however you choose to celebrate it.

I am writing to share important information that requires action from all of you before the 16th December 2020.

Phase 3 of CGB’s Back to School Protocols:

Thank you to everyone in the Parent Council for being so open and supportive. I am grateful for the feedback provided concerning the five models we created as a Senior Leadership Team for how Phase 3 could look in January. Seeing as no one model was unanimously preferred, we took the pros and cons identified and created a sixth model which was presented to the Advisory Board and approved this morning. Please click here for detailed information on how Phase 3 will work.

We have created a new SIGN-UP PROCESS on Phidias, that you must access following the instructions provided on the first page, and that ALL families must complete by 11:59 pm on Wednesday 16th December 2020 that indicates if you will choose to send your children to school following this plan in January, or, if you will keep them home to continue learning remotely. The reason for this deadline is so that we can begin creating the tutor lists, transport logistics and biosecurity protocols onsite as soon as possible, so that nothing is left to the last minute. Thank you for respecting this. If you could help us promote this deadline with everyone you know it would be most appreciated. (We will send reminders through Phidias, Facebook and Whatsapp).

Even if your child(ren) attended school during Phase 1 or Phase 2, you must re-register them. The sign-up list will be arranged from scratch to ensure more equity in our community.

Health and Biosafety Protocols for COVID-19

As always, we will all need to adhere to the biosafety protocols as outlined in this document.

Dear families,

We trust this message finds you well.

We are writing to inform you that one of CGB’s teachers has been confirmed as positive with COVID-19. As soon as they presented symptoms last night, the school doctor was informed. Dr. Carolina was then able to follow our protocols and get the teacher tested. The positive result came in today and the teacher is now safely back at home and we hope for a swift recovery. We do not know how they became infected or where they became infected. (For legal reasons we are unable to say the name of any COVID patients. Thank you for understanding).

We are hopeful that further transmission will not have taken place due to the strict biosecurity measures that we are all following at CGB. However, in the interest of the safety of our wider community, we have taken the decision to return to Code 4 (virtual learning) on Monday 26th October while we await the results from the staff who were in close contact with the patient, who will be tested early tomorrow morning. Depending on the results we will then be able to make a decision as to whether we can reopen school under Code 3 as of Tuesday or if we will need to remain on Code 4 for longer. Please see the Code 4 timetable here. We have already contacted the families of the students who came into close contact with the teacher in question. An extra deep clean of the school and our buses already began today.

It is as important as ever that we all monitor the health of everyone in our households for the following 14 days. As always, should anyone in your household experience COVID-19 symptoms you must contact CGB’s doctor on +57 315 543 9757 or on doctor@cgb.edu.co - It is important to remember that as a school we will never judge anyone who contracts this virus.

Should you wish for your family to be tested, this can be done using your private medical health care plan (at your own cost) or by contacting your EPS, clinic or a reliable laboratory. Should you have a COVID test, please report the results to the school Doctor immediately, either by email doctor@cgb.edu.co or by mobile +57 315 543 9757. We advise you not to use the COVID testing services on domicilio applications as the risk of a false negative increases. Only use reputable laboratories and/or clinics. Remember that blood tests do not diagnose COVID. For more details, you can contact our Doctor.

To be on the safe side, we have asked that the families of the students (including siblings) who had close contact with the teacher do not return to school during the next two weeks, even if as a school we are able to open beforehand.

Les escribimos para informarles que uno de los docentes del CGB ha sido confirmado positivo con COVID-19. Tan pronto como se presentaron los síntomas anoche, se informó a la doctora del colegio. Luego, la Dra. Carolina pudo seguir nuestros protocolos y hacer que el docente fuera evaluado. El resultado positivo llegó hoy y el docente ahora está sano y salvo en casa. Esperamos su pronta recuperación. No sabemos cómo se infectaron ni dónde se infectaron. (Por razones legales, no podemos decir el nombre de ningún paciente de COVID. Gracias por su comprensión).

Tenemos la esperanza de que no haya habido más transmisiones debido a las estrictas medidas de bioseguridad que todos seguimos en el CGB. Sin embargo, en interés de la seguridad de nuestra comunidad en general, hemos tomado la decisión de volver al Código 4 (Aprendizaje virtual) el lunes 26 de octubre mientras esperamos los resultados de las pruebas de los docentes que estuvieron en estrecho contacto con el profesor que tiene COVID, y quienes se realizarán la prueba Covid mañana temprano. Dependiendo de los resultados, podremos tomar una decisión si podemos volver a abrir el colegio bajo el Código 3 a partir del martes, o si debemos continuar en Código 4 por más tiempo. Por favor, revise el horario de Código 4 aquí. Es muy importante que todos controlemos nuestra salud en nuestros hogares durante los siguientes 14 días. Como siempre, si alguien en su hogar experimenta síntomas de COVID-19, debe comunicarse con el médico del CGB al +57 315 5439757 o a doctor@cgb.edu.co - Es importante recordar que como colegio nunca juzgaremos a nadie que contraiga este virus.

Si desea que su familia se haga la prueba, puede hacerlo utilizando su plan de atención médico privado (a su propio costo) o comunicándose con su EPS, clínica o laboratorio de confianza. Si se realiza una prueba de COVID, informe los resultados al médico del colegio de inmediato, ya sea por correo electrónico doctor@cgb.edu.co o por teléfono +57 315 543 9757. Le recomendamos que no utilice los servicios de prueba de COVID en aplicaciones domiciliarias dado que se aumenta el riesgo de un falso negativo. Estimadas familias del CGB - FASE 1

Ya estamos cerca de nuestro regreso al colegio de manera presencial. No nos cansaremos de insistir en la importancia de cuidarnos todos y protegernos siguiendo los protocolos que hemos creado para tal fin. Por eso, les pedimos ingresar a Phidias para aceptar cumplir como familia los protocolos de bioseguridad, antes del martes 6 de octubre. Es obligatorio hacerlo para poder asistir al colegio. Este es un trabajo en equipo, por eso, pedimos leer y discutir en familia sobre LOS PROTOCOLOS mínimos que debemos seguir y deben asegurarse de que sus hijos los comprendan. Dear Families,

We hope everyone continues to be safe and healthy during our “new normal”.

CGB has been busy preparing our Bio-Safety protocols, you can read them here in English and here in Spanish. We need all families to read these and understand the measures we are taking as a school and those which we need your support in from home. In the Reopening School - Phase 2 survey, you will be required to confirm you have read and understood these protocols.

We are writing to update everyone regarding our back to school plans. As you know, we designed a First Phase return to school that will commence on the 13th October, 2020 for all families who replied ‘yes’ to sending their child to school in the initial survey and signed the disclaimer. The First Phase will end on the 30th of October, 2020.

Our Second Phase will commence on Tuesday, the 3rd of November, 2020 and run until the 27th of November, 2020.

From 27th of November, 2020, until 11th of December, 2020, CGB will return to Code 4 and continue having online lessons to allow time for families to travel and complete quarantine at their destination.

In Phase Two, we expect to implement the following:

1. FS/KS1/IB for those who said ‘yes’ in the initial survey can continue sending their child every day if they wish (except Thursday);

2. FS/KS1/IB anyone who wishes to now send their child (not including families whose children attended in Round 1) will have the ability to attend school following the pico y casa schedule;

3. KS2/3/4 - pico y casa for 2 houses a day (if we reach 167 students, we will switch to 1 house per day)

**** However, as soon as we reach the 35% limit of students at school, the SLT reserves the right to convene another Advisory Board meeting to reassess and reevaluate our model. Parents should be aware this design may be adjusted for the benefit of the whole community.

To have accurate numbers to determine how Phase Two will work, it is compulsory for you to complete the survey on Phidias for each of your children NO LATER than Monday, 28th September, 2020 by 8am.

We require all families to complete the survey including those who said yes in Phase One.

Why is it important that you complete an individual survey for each child? Perhaps some parents have different opinions for sending their children in different Key Stages. The data needs to be accurate per class and the results from the survey will guide the Advisory Board’s decision. Please take this survey seriously.

If you do not complete the survey, CGB will consider that your family does NOT wish to send your child to school for Phase 2.

We ask for everyone’s patience as the rules and situation will likely change in the short to mid-term. Rest assured, we are doing our best to ensure our students’ learning and the community’s health are the focus of everything we do.

The survey will outline details regarding the charges for transport during Phase Two, please be aware that these fees are applicable only for 2020 and will be revised in 2021. Due to different children attending each day and buses needing to adhere to 50% capacity, we require additional buses. Consequently, we have negotiated a competitive rate but ask for families understanding regarding how the service will work.

All families should also note that due to us returning to face to face teaching, some adjustment to the timetable will be made in order for students to get home and have time to eat before logging in for afternoon classes if needed. This adjustment will be in place from Thursday 1st October, the afternoon support timetable will start 1 hour later and run in the same 15 minute blocks from 3pm - 4.45pm. Finally, it is important as a community that if we learn someone has been infected with COVID-19, we remain understanding and caring, not judgemental. Esperamos que todos se encuentren bien dentro de nuestra “nueva normalidad”.

El colegio ha estado ocupado preparando los protocolos de Bioseguridad. Puede leerlos aquí en inglés y aquí en español. Necesitamos que todas las familias lean estos y comprendan las medidas que estamos tomando como colegio y aquellas en las que necesitamos su apoyo desde casa. En la encuesta de “Reopening School - Phase 2”, se les pedirá que confirmen que han leído y comprendido estos protocolos.

Les escribimos para actualizar a todos sobre nuestros planes de regreso a clases. Como saben, diseñamos una primera fase de regreso al colegio, que comenzará el 13 de octubre de 2020 para todas las familias que respondieron "sí" en la encuesta inicial y firmaron el consentimiento. La primera fase finalizará el 30 de octubre de 2020.

FS / KS1 / IB cualquier persona que desee enviar ahora a su hijo (sin incluir las familias cuyos hijos asistieron en la Fase 1) tendrá la posibilidad de asistir al colegio siguiendo el horario de pico y casa;

KS2 / 3/4 - pico y casa, 2 casas al día (si llegamos a 167 estudiantes, cambiaremos a 1 casa por día)

**** Sin embargo, tan pronto como alcancemos el límite de 35% de estudiantes en el colegio, el SLT se reserva el derecho de convocar al Consejo Directivo a otra reunión para reevaluar nuestro modelo. Queremos aclarar que este modelo podrá requerir ajustes, siempre pensando en el beneficio de toda la comunidad.

¿Por qué es importante que complete una encuesta individual para cada niño? Quizás algunos padres tienen diferentes opiniones sobre el envío de sus hijos en las diferentes etapas escolares. Los datos deben ser precisos por clase y los resultados de la encuesta guiarán la decisión de la Junta Directiva. Es fundamental que tome esta encuesta con la seriedad requerida.

Si no completa la encuesta, el CGB considerará que su familia NO desea enviar a su hijo al colegio para la Fase 2.

Pedimos la paciencia de todos, ya que es probable que las reglas y la situación cambien a corto o mediano plazo. Tenga la seguridad de que estamos haciendo todo lo posible para garantizar que el aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes y la salud de la comunidad sea el eje de todo lo que hacemos.

En la encuesta detallados los cargos por transporte durante la Fase Dos. Tenga en cuenta que estas tarifas son aplicables solo para el 2020 (dado que están basadas en los costos escolares 2019-2020) y a partir de enero se basarán en los costos escolares 2020-2021). Debido a que diferentes niños asistirán cada día y los buses deben cumplir con el 50% de su capacidad, se requerirán buses adicionales. Estos ajustes en el horario entrarán en vigor a partir del jueves 1 de octubre. El horario de apoyo en la tarde comenzará una hora más tarde y se llevará a cabo en los mismos bloques de 15 minutos desde las 15:00 hasta las 16:45. Favor revisar el horario aquí.

Dear CGB families,

I hope you are all well.

I am writing with news from today’s Advisory Board meeting on the decision that was made regarding the opening of our campus.

Background:

You will know there has been a lot of confusion in the information we have been receiving from the government both nationally and locally. As an SLT, even though schools can apply to reopen in the month of September, we took the decision to remain under Code 4 until after the October break, and observe what will happen “outside” over the next couple of weeks.

Non-negotiables:

● 479 students on roll

● 35% capacity = 167 students on site - maximum at any one time

● Need to cater to the learning needs of the children on and off site - via a blended/hybrid model

● Thursdays will be under Code 4 every week as the government has forbidden schools to open their doors on this day (it was two days a week - and now only one)

● Parents must sign the waiver stating that they understand the risks of sending their children to CGB during the pandemic and that should they become infected they will not sue the school. (Families who said they would like to send their children but did not sign the waiver will be contacted again to finalise what their decision is regarding this point).

Variables:

● Parents completed the survey without knowing which model would be chosen

● We had to bring it to the Advisory Board first AND had to bring the results from the parent survey first - this felt very much like a “chicken and egg situation”

● Maybe some families will change their mind one way or the other depending on which of the following options we think is best

● How would we manage the freedom for families to change their minds without jeopardising the biosecurity rules? Every 2 weeks? Every month?

● Holiday proposal to allow families and staff to travel home: At least one week before and after the holidays on Code 4 to allow for quarantine at home and back in Colombia with at least two weeks of freedom in the middle to BE at home

● Transport logistics and cost

After a long discussion looking at the six options for reopening (one of which was staying on Code 4 until January) the following decision was taken:

CGB will reopen our doors in the following way:

ALL students in FS/KS1 and Year 12 and 13 (IB) (who said yes in the survey sent last week) will be able to come to school every day - families who did not respond, or said no, will have the option to change their minds and send their children to school following the Pico y Casa plan with 2 Houses a day, until we reach the limit of 167 students on site. Once the limit has been met, we will revert to one House being allowed each day.

Details of how people can register they would like to change their minds will be sent shortly. With such a low number of students being allowed on site at any one time, we will not be able to allow people to change their minds on a daily basis - we will need at least three weeks notice so that the transport logistics can be solved in advance.

Specific details of the calendar and what it means for each family will be shared in the coming days according to how you voted.

Transport is perhaps the most complicated piece in this whole puzzle. We will be in touch again shortly with the final details of how this will work now that we have a plan of action on which to build.

As always, the SLT and the CEG are on hand for anyone who would like to speak to any of us about anything that is going through your mind.

What if I want to travel “home” during the holidays but would need to spend 4 weeks in quarantine?

The decision was taken to revert to Code 4 in the two weeks prior to, and after, the holidays (to allow people to travel home and complete two weeks of quarantine, have time with family and friends, and return to Colombia to complete another two weeks of quarantine here).

Families should avoid travel BEFORE the evening of the 27th November. Virtual class time should not be missed in order to travel.

Families must be back in Colombia no later than the 10th January 2021 to start and complete the quarantine before returning to school face to face on the 25th January. It MIGHT be that by then a COVID test will be enough to allow those who travelled abroad back to work and quarantine won’t be needed. In that case we will return to school as planned on the 11th January.

I hope this news brings some comfort and allows for all of us to begin planning what our short term future will look like. We understand this decision could change depending on what the local and national governments say - and, of course, is depending upon our protocols being accepted by the Ministries of Health and Education.

Les escribo para informarles sobre la decisión que se tomó en el Consejo Directivo de hoy, en relación con la apertura de nuestras instalaciones.

Contexto:

Como saben ha habido mucha confusión en la información que hemos recibido del gobierno a nivel nacional y local. Por tal motivo, como SLT tomamos la decisión de permanecer bajo el Código 4 hasta después del receso de octubre y observar lo que sucederá "afuera" durante las próximas semanas, ahora que estamos en esta "nueva normalidad" y a pesar de que los colegios podían solicitar la reapertura en el mes de septiembre.

No es negociable:

● 479 estudiantes en lista.

● Un máximo de 35% de capacidad = 167 estudiantes de manera presencial al mismo tiempo.

● Necesidad de atender las necesidades de aprendizaje de los niños dentro y fuera del colegio, a través de un modelo mixto/híbrido

● Los jueves de cada semana serán bajo el Código 4, ya que el gobierno ha prohibido a los colegios abrir sus puertas este día (Era dos días a la semana y ahora sólo uno).

● Los padres deben firmar una exención declarando que comprenden los riesgos de enviar a sus hijos al CGB durante la pandemia y que si se infectan no demandarán al colegio. (Las familias que dijeron que les gustaría enviar a sus hijos pero no firmaron esta exención, serán contactadas de nuevo para ultimar su decisión con respecto a este punto).

Variables:

● Los padres completaron la encuesta sin saber qué modelo se elegiría. PERO tuvimos que llevarlo al Consejo Directivo Y exponer primero los resultados de los padres #lasituacióndelhuevoylagallina

● Tal vez algunas familias cambien de opinión de una forma u otra dependiendo de cuál de las siguientes opciones creemos que es la mejor.

● ¿Cómo manejaremos la libertad de las familias para cambiar de opinión sin poner en peligro las normas de bioseguridad?, ¿Cada dos semanas?, ¿Cada mes?

● Propuesta de vacaciones para permitir a las familias y al personal viajar a casa: Por lo menos una semana antes y después de las vacaciones bajo el Código 4 para permitir la cuarentena en casa y de regreso a Colombia, con al menos dos semanas de libertad en el medio para ESTAR en casa.

● Logística de transporte y costos.

Después de una larga discusión, revisando las 6 opciones de reapertura (dentro de las cuales estaba la opción de seguir en Código 4 hasta enero), se ha tomado la siguiente decisión:

CGB abrirá sus puertas de la siguiente manera:

TODOS los estudiantes en FS/KS1 y Años 12 y 13 (IB) (que dijeron que sí) vendrán al colegio todos los días de acuerdo con el Pico y Casa; es decir, 2 casas por día, hasta que alcancemos el límite de 167 estudiantes de manera presencial y entonces tendremos que cambiar a una casa por día.

Pronto se enviarán los detalles de cómo pueden registrarse si desean cambiar de opinión. Con un número tan bajo de estudiantes permitidos presencialmente al mismo tiempo, no podremos permitir que cambien de opinión a diario, necesitaremos al menos tres semanas de previo aviso para que la logística del transporte pueda ser resuelta con antelación.

A continuación podrán ver las respuestas que recibimos de los padres sobre si enviaban o no a sus hijos al colegio.

Pronto enviaremos detalles específicos sobre el calendario y lo que significa para cada familia de acuerdo a lo que votaron.

El transporte es quizás la pieza más complicada de todo este rompecabezas. Pronto estaremos en contacto de nuevo con los detalles finales de cómo funcionará esto, ahora que tenemos un plan de acción sobre el que construir.

Como siempre, El SLT y el CEG están a la mano para cualquiera que desee hablar sobre lo que está pasando por su mente.

¿Qué pasaría si deseo viajar a “casa” durante las vacaciones, pero debo pasar 4 semanas en cuarentena?

Se tomó la decisión de regresar al Código 4, 2 semanas antes y después de las vacaciones (para permitir a la gente viajar y completar las dos semanas de cuarentena, pasar tiempo en familia y amigos, y luego regresar a Colombia para completar las otras dos semanas de cuarentena aquí).

No se le permitirá a las familias programar viajes ANTES del 27 de noviembre. No se pueden perder clases virtuales a causa de estos viajes.

Las familias deben regresar a Colombia a más tardar el 10 de enero de 2021, para iniciar y completar la cuarentena antes de regresar al colegio de manera presencial el 25 de enero. Pueda que para entonces una prueba de COVID sea suficiente para aquellos que viajaron al exterior y les permita trabajar sin necesidad de la cuarentena. Si ese es el caso, podríamos volver al colegio el 11 de enero como estaba previsto.

Espero que esta noticia traiga algo de alivio y nos permita a todos empezar a planear lo que sería nuestro futuro a corto plazo. Entendemos que esta decisión podría cambiar dependiendo de lo que los gobiernos a nivel nacional y local digan, y por supuesto de que nuestros protocolos sean aceptados por los Ministerios de Salud y de Educación.

I hope everyone continues to be safe and healthy during our “new normal”.

I am writing to give you a brief update on where we are regarding our back to school plans.

You may be aware that more information from the government is being released every day. Currently, before a decision can be made we need feedback from parents, consent from our Advisory Board and permission from the government. For the Board to be able to make their decision they will need access to as much information as possible. We will meet as a Board next Tuesday (with the invited presence of our doctor and lawyer) and hope that by then we will have been given the full panorama of information from both the Ministries of Education and Health, as well as our local Secretary of Education. As a school we have made the decision not to reopen immediately but instead to wait until after the October break. The reason for this is to enable us to monitor the situation during the beginning stages of the "new normal" in Bogotá, to see how case numbers fluctuate and how things evolve.

We need to be able to share the parent body’s opinion before a decision can be made as to when and how we reopen our doors. With that in mind, it is compulsory for you to complete the survey on Phidias for each of your children by Sunday, 13th September at 9pm.

Why is it important that you do this for each child? Perhaps some parents have different opinions for their children in different Key Stages, and the data needs to be accurate per class. The results from the survey will guide the Advisory Board’s decision, so please take it very seriously.

The Back to School protocols that we created last year were assuming that the capacity would be 50%, as we had seen in many other countries. However, we have been told that we cannot exceed more than 35% of students on roll (not on the capacity we have in our buildings). This means we are unable to run the model we hoped for with all of FS/KS1 and all of IB attending every day. So, we will have to make some changes as to how the “partial attendance” plan will work over the coming days. We are assuming that every child will be able to come to school either once or twice a week.

We have already been given a “radicado” number for our bio security protocols that were uploaded last week, and we are re-submitting them via the “button” that was opened yesterday to ensure we have all of our bases covered.

We will need to ask for everyone’s patience as we are sure that the rules and situation will change for us in the short to mid-term - we are doing our best to ensure that our students’ learning and community’s health is at the focus of everything we do.

Finally, it is really important that as a community, if we learn that someone has been (or will be) infected with COVID-19, that we are understanding and caring as opposed to judgemental. CGB is a no bully zone at all times - and as a community we need to be tighter than ever during such a difficult period. Thank you so much for sharing this message with your children. Les escribo para darles una breve actualización con respecto a nuestros planes de regreso a clases.

Diariamente el gobierno publica nueva información. Antes de poder tomar una decisión, necesitamos la retroalimentación de los padres, el consentimiento de nuestro Consejo Directivo, y el permiso del gobierno. Para que el Consejo pueda tomar una decisión, necesitará tener acceso a la mayor cantidad de información posible. El Consejo Directivo se reunirá el próximo martes (con la presencia de nuestro médico y también de nuestro abogado) y esperamos que para entonces tengamos claro el panorama completo de información emitida tanto por los Ministerios de Educación y Salud, como por la Secretaría de Educación local. Como colegio, hemos tomado la decisión de no reabrir inmediatamente, sino de esperar hasta después de la semana de receso de octubre. La razón de esto es permitirnos monitorear la situación durante las etapas iniciales de la "nueva normalidad" en Bogotá, para ver cómo fluctúan los números de casos y cómo evolucionan las cosas.

Realizaremos una matriz con la retroalimentación de los padres de familia para tomar así una decisión sobre cuándo y cómo reabrir nuestras puertas. Con esto en mente, es obligatorio completar el proceso en Phidias para cada uno de sus hijos antes del domingo 13 de septiembre en la noche.

¿Por qué es importante que se llene una encuesta para cada uno de sus hijos? Quizás algunos padres tienen diferentes opiniones sobre la asistencia al colegio de sus hijos dependiendo del nivel en el que se encuentren, y los datos se analizarán por clase. Los resultados de la encuesta guiarán la decisión del Consejo Directiva, así que por favor completar la encuesta con detenimiento.

En los protocolos de Regreso a Clases que creamos el año pasado se asumió que la capacidad sería del 50%, como habíamos visto en muchos otros países. Sin embargo, nos han dicho que no podemos exceder más del 35% de estudiantes registrados (no basado en la capacidad que tenemos en nuestros edificios). Esto significa que no podemos ejecutar el modelo que esperábamos con todos los de FS / KS1 y todos los de IB asistiendo todos los días. Entonces, tendremos que hacer algunos cambios en cuanto a cómo funcionará el plan de “asistencia parcial” en los próximos días. Suponemos que todos los niños podrán asistir al colegio una o dos veces por semana.

Finalmente, es realmente importante que, como comunidad, si nos enteramos de que alguien ha sido (o está) infectado con COVID-19, seamos comprensivos y cariñosos en lugar de juzgarlos. Dear CGB Community,

As always, I trust that everyone is healthy and well. It is of great relief that, to my knowledge, nobody within our direct community has been infected with the virus, though of course many of us know people in our extended families and social circles who have either had the virus and recovered, or in some very sad cases even passed away. My thoughts go out to you if that is the case. Unfortunately, it is likely that this number will continue growing as time goes by. As a school, we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that nobody within our community contracts the virus.

I would especially appeal to students in Years 12 and 13 to go to the University Information page to stay on top of the various online webinars, activities, online summer courses etc. that are being posted there.

As a Senior Leadership Team, we are trying to stay “one step ahead of the game” in terms of what we can and cannot plan for and to communicate as soon as we are able to. Yesterday morning the school’s Advisory Board met and I presented a series of agenda items for their ratification, input, modification and final approval. As always having this multi-agency approach allows us to see things from multiple perspectives, and I am writing to you now in a bid to share that information with you. I would like to thank each and every member of the Advisory Board for their input, support and constructively critical eyes during this challenging time. (Brace yourselves for a lot of information…)

What will happen with the next two Puentes?

It is still unclear if the government will maintain the puentes (on the 25th May and the 15th June). We discussed the merit behind keeping them both, choosing to remove them from our calendar or having one and removing one. The Advisory Board voted unanimously to keep them both as puentes. However, if the Government removes them and expects people to work, then we will respect that and they will be a school day in order to support our working parents. So, if you hear nothing more from us about them, please assume that the puentes will take place as usual and there will be no school on those days. (The second one would only affect students who need to recuperate).

How will CGB end the year?

With the extension of the quarantine to the end of May, it is looking less and less likely that we will be able to return to school before the summer holidays. With this in mind, we felt that it is fairer to everyone to simply take the decision to finish the year virtually, and plan accordingly. Students will not return to CGB’s buildings before the summer holidays. While we all understand that this is not what any of us want, I am confident that we can all agree that it is the safest and fairest way to end the year.

In terms of the “paz y salvo” process (the process to return all items etc. and be in good standing with the school) is now being designed. We are looking for a way that will prioritise the needs of families and staff who will leave CGB at the end of the year, before those who will return, and once we have the final process ready, it will be shared with you all.

What about Graduation ceremonies for Year 2, Year 6 and Year 13 students?

Unlike some schools with a static population, we cannot simply delay the date until we are able to meet in person again, and so we will be marking these important moments in the lives of our students in a way that celebrates their achievements virtually - and we have committed ourselves to find a way to do this in a meaningful style that will allow those respective year groups, and their friends and families, to come together and celebrate their achievements. As of tomorrow, every evening at 20:20 we will be publishing photos and stories of our 2020 Seniors to begin marking this auspicious moment of transition as they graduate and cease to be school students, before embarking on the next chapter of their lives. How will CGB students be assessed and graded during COVID-19?

We have worked really hard to create new Assessment policies for both Primary and Secondary students, based on the research we have been conducting. One of our main concerns was ensuring that whatever we design keeps as many doors open for our current Seniors, and the students in Year 12. In a nutshell, we are moving away from summative assessments, and leaning into more formative assessments. Nobody in Primary will fail the year. In Secondary nobody will fail the year based solely on the results obtained in Term 3. However, students who underachieved during Term 1 and Term 2 - and continue to do so, will have their cases discussed in the final Promotions Committee of the year. GPA scores have been removed, though the grades will remain on the transcripts - and if Year 12 and Year 13 students would like them calculated because they feel it will support their university applications, this will be done at their request. Both policies have had staff and the Advisory Board’s consultation and as of yesterday morning, the Advisory Board approved them both. Thank you to everyone who was involved in this process.

What will happen at the start of the next academic year?

This question is difficult to answer right now, and will depend firstly on what the government says we can and cannot do. As an international school, we also need to factor in certain realities that other schools do not have. For example, at the moment families who are moving to Colombia from other countries are not able to apply for their visas to come here as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will only process visa renewals for foreigners within Colombia’s territory. The same is, of course, true for the new foreign teachers, of which we have ten. We are doing everything we can to ensure the safe arrival of all new staff by mid July so they can self-quarantine for two weeks before the 1st August when the induction period will begin for them. However, it is important to plan for the possibility that one, some, or all are unable to be here for the first day. If this were to happen, we would need to begin learning and teaching digitally.

Once we are given permission to return, and have enough staff who are here, and healthy enough, to come to school - we will do so. We are DESPERATE to get back to CGB’s buildings and BE with your children again. But it is important to stress that in order to keep everyone safe, we will need to follow multiple new protocols and be as flexible as possible to ensure as much normality as possible. The Senior Leadership Team has designed ten potential re-opening scenarios that were presented to the Advisory Board today. The Senior Leadership Team has been tasked with refining three of them, before taking them back to the Board. Once this has been done and a decision has been made, it will be shared with you. Thank you for your patience with this - we need to look at what was very normal for all of us through multiple lenses in a bid to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Students need to be ready at 7:25am every day.

The Advisory Board agreed today that we need to change the rules is Secondary concerning cameras during lessons. From Monday, all secondary students must be up, showered, dressed appropriately, sat in an area of the house that is public that parents can monitor and ready to learn by 7:25 every morning. All classes will begin with everyone’s cameras switched on to increase the social-emotional connection that is so important - and to ensure that the students haven’t signed-in to their lessons but checked-out of their learning. Cameras can be switched off to ease bandwidth when the teacher says, but a teacher can call on any student to turn their camera on at any moment of the class, and the student must comply. If anyone has an issue with their child’s camera or microphone they must inform Julián Ramírez (support@cgb.edu.co) so he can help solve the problem. I cannot stress enough that for Child Protection reasons it is vital that parents support us in ensuring their children are ready to begin learning at 7:25 each day and are dressed and located appropriately. Thank you!

What about the children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2?

We understand that this age group is incredibly special. They require a lot of face to face support in order to access their learning and to develop their fine and gross motor skills. We also understand that for families in which both parents work, this age group has additional complexities in terms of balancing home and work responsibilities. There is one school of thought that suggests we should consider opening CGB without these youngest year groups on-site as they are potentially the best transmitters of the virus because they do not understand the new social distancing rules and regulations and are more likely to cross-contaminate than any other year group. However, we have found a solution that would significantly reduce the chances of them transmitting the virus by opening Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 in the Retiro de San Juan’s buildings at the School Campus in August (assuming the government allows children of this age to attend school), even if the rest of the students are learning digitally. Having so much space will be great for them, and will make the social distancing much easier. Logistics such as timetable, transportation and food provision are still being discussed, but I wanted to make sure that all parents of children of this age know from now that we will do everything possible to have them at school with us in person for as long as possible - while operating within the yet-to-be-defined health and safety rules and regulations.

I am aware that was a lot of information. So, thank you for reading this far! I will never tire from saying how much everyone at CGB misses your children, and you! I am incredibly grateful to the continued support, patience and understanding that absolutely everyone in our community shows on a daily basis. These are not easy times, but as I wrote recently, as a school we are most definitely on the sunny side of the spectrum in terms of the privileges we enjoy. That doesn’t make our experience “easy” but it does give us all that much-needed sense of perspective when we compare our experience with others’.

Como siempre, espero que todo el mundo se encuentre bien y sano. Es un gran alivio que hasta donde yo sé, nadie dentro de nuestra comunidad se ha infectado con el virus, aunque por supuesto muchos de nosotros conocemos a personas en nuestras familias y círculos sociales que han tenido el virus y se han recuperado, o en algunos casos muy tristes que incluso han fallecido. Mis pensamientos están con ustedes si ese es el caso. Desafortunadamente, es probable que este número siga creciendo con el paso del tiempo. Como colegio, estamos comprometidos a hacer todo lo posible para asegurar que nadie dentro de nuestra comunidad contraiga el virus.

Por favor, recuerden revisar Página de Aprendizaje Digital del CGB. Este se actualiza constantemente. Hago un llamado especial a los estudiantes de Años 12 y 13 para que vayan a la Página Información sobre Universidades para estar al tanto de los diversos seminarios, actividades y cursos de verano en línea, etc. que se están publicando allí.

Como el Equipo de Liderazgo estamos tratando de estar "un paso adelante" en términos de lo que podemos y no podemos planear y de comunicarnos tan pronto como no es posible. Ayer en la mañana el Consejo Directivo del colegio se reunió y presenté una serie de puntos en la agenda para su ratificación, entrada, modificación y aprobación final. Como siempre, este enfoque multi institucional nos permite ver las cosas desde múltiples perspectivas, y les escribo ahora en un intento de compartir esa información con ustedes. Me gustaría agradecer a todos y cada uno de los miembros del Consejo Directivo por sus aportes, apoyo y mirada crítica constructiva durante este momento tan difícil. ¿Qué pasará con los próximos dos Puentes?

Aún no está claro si el gobierno mantendrá los puentes (el 25 de mayo y el 15 de junio). Discutimos el mérito de mantenerlos ambos, quitarlos de nuestro calendario o tener uno y quitar el otro. El Consejo Directivo votó unánimemente para mantener ambos puentes. Sin embargo, si el Gobierno los elimina y espera que la gente trabaje, entonces respetaremos eso y será un día de colegio para apoyar a nuestros padres que trabajan. Así que si no escuchan nada más de ellos, por favor asuman que los puentes se llevarán a cabo como de costumbre y no habrá colegio en esos días. (El segundo puente sólo afectaría a los estudiantes que necesitan recuperar).

¿Cómo terminará el año el CGB?

Con la extensión de la cuarentena hasta finales de mayo, parece cada vez menos probable que podamos volver al colegio antes de las vacaciones de verano. Con esto en mente, sentimos que es más justo para todos tomar la decisión de terminar el año virtualmente, y planificar acorde a esto. Los estudiantes no volverán al CGB antes de las vacaciones de verano. Aunque todos entendemos que esto no es lo que ninguno de nosotros quiere, estoy seguro de que todos podemos estar de acuerdo en que es la forma más segura y justa de terminar el año.

En cuanto al proceso de "paz y salvo" (el proceso de devolver todos los artículos etc. y estar a paz y salvo con el colegio) se está diseñando ahora. Estamos buscando una forma de priorizar las necesidades de las familias y el personal que dejarán el CGB al final del año, antes que los que se quedan, y una vez que tengamos el proceso final listo, será compartido con todos ustedes.

¿Qué pasará con las ceremonias de graduación de los estudiantes de Año 2, Año 6 y Año 13?

A diferencia de algunos colegios con una población estática, no podemos simplemente aplazar la fecha hasta que podamos reunirnos de nuevo de manera presencial, por lo tanto estaremos marcando estos momentos importantes en las vidas de nuestros estudiantes celebrando sus logros virtualmente y nos hemos comprometido a encontrar una manera de hacer esto en un estilo significativo que permita a esos respectivos años, a sus amigos y familias, reunirse y celebrar sus logros. A partir de mañana, todas las noches a las 20:20 publicaremos fotos e historias de nuestros alumnos del último año del 2020 para comenzar a marcar este auspicioso momento de transición a medida que se gradúan y dejan de ser alumnos del colegio, antes de embarcarse en el siguiente capítulo de sus vidas. ¿Cómo se evaluarán y calificarán a los estudiantes del CGB durante el COVID-19?

Hemos trabajado muy duro para crear nuevas políticas de evaluación para los estudiantes de primaria y secundaria basadas en la investigación que hemos estado llevando a cabo. Una de nuestras principales preocupaciones fue asegurarnos de que cualquier cosa que diseñemos mantenga tantas puertas abiertas para nuestros actuales alumnos de último año, y los estudiantes de Año 12. En pocas palabras, nos estamos alejando de las evaluaciones sumativas, y nos inclinamos hacia evaluaciones más formativas. Nadie en Primaria reprobará el año. En Secundaria nadie reprobará el año basándonos únicamente en los resultados obtenidos en el tercer trimestre. Sin embargo, los estudiantes que no tuvieron éxito durante el

primer y segundo trimestre, y que continúan fallando, estos casos serán discutidos en el Comité de Promociones final del año. Los puntajes del GPA han sido removidos, aunque las notas permanecerán en las transcripciones y si los estudiantes de Año 12 y 13 quieren que se calculen porque sienten que les ayudará en sus aplicaciones a la universidad, esto se hará a petición de ellos. Ambas políticas han sido revisadas por el personal y el Consejo Directivo ayer en la mañana, el Consejo Directivo ha aprobado ambas. Gracias a todos los que han participado en este proceso.

¿Qué pasará al comienzo del próximo año académico?

Esta pregunta es difícil de responder ahora mismo y dependerá en primer lugar de lo que el gobierno diga que podemos y no podemos hacer. Como colegio internacional, también necesitamos tener en cuenta ciertas realidades que otros colegios no tienen. Por ejemplo, en este momento las familias que se trasladan a Colombia desde otros países no pueden solicitar sus visas para venir aquí, ya que el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores sólo procesa las renovaciones de visas para los extranjeros que se encuentren en el territorio colombiano. Lo mismo ocurre con los nuevos profesores extranjeros, de los cuales tenemos diez. Estamos haciendo todo lo posible para asegurar la llegada segura de todo el personal nuevo a mediados de julio para que puedan ponerse en auto-cuarentena durante dos semanas antes del 1 de agosto que es cuando el período de inducción comenzará para ellos. Sin embargo, es importante planear la posibilidad de que uno, algunos o todos no puedan estar aquí el primer día. Si esto ocurriera, necesitaríamos empezar a aprender y enseñar digitalmente.

Una vez que se nos dé permiso para regresar y tengamos suficiente personal de manera presencial, y lo suficientemente sanos para venir al colegio, lo haremos. Estamos DESESPERADOS por volver a al CGB y estar con sus hijos otra vez. Pero es importante destacar que para mantener a todos a salvo, tendremos que seguir múltiples protocolos nuevos y ser lo más flexibles posible para asegurar la mayor normalidad posible. El Equipo de Liderazgo ha diseñado diez escenarios potenciales de reapertura que fueron presentados hoy al Consejo Directivo. Se le ha encargado al El Equipo de Liderazgo mejorar tres de ellos, antes de llevarlos de nuevo a discusión en el Consejo. Una vez que esto se haya hecho y se haya tomado una decisión, será compartida con ustedes. Gracias por su paciencia con esto, tenemos que mirar lo que era muy normal para todos nosotros a través de múltiples lentes en un intento de mantener a todos tan seguros como sea posible.

Los estudiantes deben estar listos a las 7:25am todos los días.

El Consejo Directivo acordó hoy que necesitamos cambiar las reglas de Secundaria con respecto a las cámaras durante las clases. A partir del lunes, todos los estudiantes de secundaria deben estar levantados, duchados, vestidos apropiadamente, sentados en un área de la casa que sea pública para que los padres puedan monitorear y los estudiantes deben estar listos para aprender a las 7:25 cada mañana. Todas las clases comenzarán con las cámaras de todos encendidas para aumentar la conexión socio-emocional que es tan importante, y para asegurarse no tanto si los estudiantes se han registrado en sus lecciones, sino para comprobar su aprendizaje. Las cámaras pueden ser apagadas para facilitar el ancho de banda cuando el profesor lo diga, pero el profesor puede llamar a cualquier estudiante para que encienda su cámara en cualquier momento de la clase, y el estudiante debe cumplir. Si alguien tiene un problema con la cámara o el micrófono de su hijo debe informar a Julián Ramírez (support@cgb.edu.co) para que pueda ayudar a resolver el problema. No puedo enfatizar lo suficiente que por razones de Protección Infantil es vital que los padres nos apoyen para asegurar que sus hijos estén listos para iniciar el aprendizaje a las 7:25 cada día y que estén vestidos y ubicados apropiadamente. ¡Gracias!.

¿Qué pasa con los niños de Nursery, Reception, Año 1 y Año 2?

Entendemos que este grupo de edad es increíblemente especial. Requieren mucho apoyo en persona para acceder a su aprendizaje y desarrollar sus habilidades motoras finas y gruesas. También entendemos que para las familias en las que ambos padres trabajan, este grupo tiene complejidades adicionales en términos de equilibrio entre las responsabilidades del hogar y el trabajo. Hay una escuela de pensamiento que sugiere que deberíamos considerar la posibilidad de abrir el CGB sin estos grupos de años más jóvenes a manera presencial, ya que son potencialmente los mejores transmisores del virus porque no entienden las nuevas normas y reglamentos de distanciamiento social y es más probable que se contaminen entre sí que cualquier otro grupo de edad. Sin embargo, hemos encontrado una solución que reduciría significativamente las posibilidades de que transmitan el virus abriendo Foundation Stage y Key Stage 1 en las instalaciones del Retiro de San Juan en agosto (suponiendo que el gobierno permita que los niños de esta edad asistan al colegio), aunque el resto de los estudiantes estén aprendiendo digitalmente. Estoy increíblemente agradecido por el continuo apoyo, paciencia y comprensión que absolutamente todos en nuestra comunidad muestran a diario. No son tiempos fáciles, pero como escribí recientemente, como colegio estamos definitivamente en el lado soleado del espectro en términos de los privilegios que disfrutamos. Eso no hace que nuestra experiencia sea "fácil", pero nos da a todos ese tan necesario sentido de perspectiva cuando comparamos nuestra experiencia con la de otros.

Dear CGB Community,

We appeal for your help and support during these troubling times.

Due to the recent outbreak of Covid-19, families in Cazuca are faced with challenges such as the lack of basic necessities. Recently we have received a communication from the school in Cazuca requesting aid from CGB regarding this situation. In order to contribute to the wellbeing of these families, we would like to request your help through donations that will cover the costs of a market and its delivery.

The majority of these families rely on their daily jobs (which they currently cannot attend) in order to survive. Recently, we have entered into contact with a provider that sells the following goods at the price of 70,000 COP (Olimpica is selling the same goods at 120,000 COP).

Goods:

-5 pounds of rice

- 1 box of oats

-1 litre of oil

- 1 box of Kellogs cereals

-1 pound of chocolate

- 1 pound of flour to cook arepas

-1 pound of sugar

- 1 box of soup pasta

-1 pound of pyre corn

- 1 box of spaghetti

-1 pound of chickpeas

- 1 cafe aguila roja

-1 pound of lentils

- 1 box of different flavoured gelatin

-1 pound of peas

- 1 small portion “panela”

-1 kilogram of salt

- 1 pound of flour

-12 eggs

Household:

-3 toilet paper rolls

- 1 bag of detergent

-1 toothpaste

- 1 lemon dishwasher

-1 shower body soap

- 1 softener

- 1 sponge ‘Zabra’

- 1 double-use sponge

The provider will send pictures or call us as proof that the goods have been delivered to the indicated families.

We hope many people can contribute to this important call, together we can help many families that are unable to receive their income during these months. Querida comunidad de CGB,

Apelamos por su ayuda y apoyo en esta difícil situación.

Debido al reciente brote de Covid-19, las familias más vulnerables en Colombia como las de Cazucá están enfrentando desafíos como la falta de alimentos básicos. En los últimos días, recibimos información por parte del colegio, pidiéndonos ayuda para poder superar esta complicada situación. Comprendiendo su situación, queremos apoyar a estas familias con un mercado básico. Sin embargo, para lograrlo, necesitamos su ayuda a través de donaciones.

La mayoría de estas familias dependen de su trabajo informal del dia a dia para sobrevivir, hemos estando en contacto con un distribuidor de mercados que nos recomendaron directamente las familias de Cazucá porque vende los mercados a un muy buen precio 70,000 COP (el mismo mercado cuesta 120,000 COP en Olímpica). El mercado contiene las siguientes cosas:

Canasta para el hogar:

-5 libras de arroz

- 1 paquete de avena en hojuelas

-1 litro de aceite

- 1 paquete de cereales Kellogs

-1 libra de chocolate

- 1 Libra de harina para arepas

-1 libra de azúcar

- 1 paquete de pasta para sopa

-1 libra de maíz pira

- 1 paquete de espaguetis

-1 libra de garbanzos

- 1 cafe aguila roja

-1 libra de lentejas

- 1 caja de gelatina de sabores

-1 libra de arveja

- 1 panela pequena

-1 kilo de sal

- 1 libra de harina de trigo

- 12 huevos

Aseo personal:

-3 rollos de papel higiénico

-1 crema dental

-1 jabón de baño para cuerpo

Aseo del hogar:

- 1 esponja doble uso

- 1 esponja ‘Zabra’

- 1 suavizante

- 1 disco lava loza de limon

- 1 bolsa de detergente

El proveedor nos va mandar fotos o llamar como prueba de que los mercados han sido entregados.

Esperamos que muchas personas puedan colaborar con esta importante causa. Juntos podemos ayudar a muchas familias que no tiene la posibilidad de trabajar en estos meses. Queremos seguir ayudando a la comunidad de Cazucá, la cual llevamos ayudando por muchos años. Si quiere hacer una donación para apoyar a estas familias, por favor donar a través de Phidias:
