Additional information about the CGB committees
Leadership permeates life at CGB. The Primary and Secondary Student Council, Prefect System, Model United Nations, House events, and numerous committees open spaces for students to work together, plan and execute activities, take responsibility for projects and develop leadership skills. This skill set includes inter-personal relations, teamwork, conflict resolution, and organization, amongst others. The Sustainable Development, Values, Service, Food, and Technology Committees are just some of the avenues for student leadership. CGB students annually participate in international events and conferences such as INTERCAS, the Round Square International Conference, Latin American Heads Conference, among others. Every year our students either participate in Model United Nations, run by other schools or lead our very own CGB MUN.
Find below a brief description of some of the groups and committees at CGB and how to apply to them.

ANNUAL SUSTAINABILITY CONFERENCE
PURPOSE Firstly to provide CGB students with an opportunity to organise and lead an inter-school conference focusing on the issue of environmental sustainability. Hopefully, this will enhance their leadership and organisational skills as it is completely student-led with only an advisory role played by staff. Also, this conference will provide our students with invaluable talking points when writing their personal statements for university applications.
Secondly, it promotes the issue of sustainability within the CGB community and the international school community here in Bogota. This reinforces the CGB Foundation Blocks of International Mindedness, Leadership and promoting a Caring Community.
Thirdly, the conference has a competitive element in that KS3 students are encouraged to produce a presentation based on the sustainability theme chosen by the conference team. The best presentations are then selected to compete in the conference thus providing a platform for the Gifted and Talented students in KS3 Humanities to excel.
PROJECTS The annual conference will take place in October/November each year. The conference team will select which aspect of sustainability will be featured in that particular year. A dedicated CCA in Term 1 will allow the conference team planning time in order to ensure success. Their is also a legacy element. Here the conference team will use what was raised at the conference to educate the wider CGB community after the conference has ended.
HOW TO APPLY. The leadership positions are open to all Humanities students in Year 10 each year. They must write a letter to the Humanities Department outlining why they are suitable for each of the leadership roles. The best candidates are then invited to interviews conducted by staff and the President of the previous year’s conference. They will then start planning from the end of Year 10 through to the beginning of Year 11.

ROUND SQUARE
PURPOSE. Round Square is a worldwide association of schools which share a commitment, beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility. It was founded by Kurt Hahn, an educator, and initiator of several innovative educational movements, who wanted schools to do more than just preparing children for University. The main pillars of Round Square’s activities are the so-called IDEALS, an acronym for Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. Due to our Global Member status in the Round Square network, our students and teachers are invited to participate in the Round Square Regional and Global conferences, and in exchanges with other Round Square schools.
PROJECTS. Through Round Square our students participate in different Conferences around the world and have the opportunity to go for an exchange with another school for 4-6 weeks. It also creates opportunities for students to Care, Give, and Believe combining knowledge, experience, and abilities within a school.
