The school House System was inaugurated during our Sports/Fun Day in June 2004.
Allocation and Belonging
Pupils are allocated to a House starting from Nursery and remain in the same House throughout their time at Colegio Gran Bretaña. To foster family unity and a sense of community, all family members—parents, children, and siblings—are placed in the same House.
Our Houses
There are four Houses named after mythological creatures, names originally chosen by our students:
Griffin: Green
Pegasus: White
Phoenix: Red
Minotaur: Blue
Each House has a Captain and a Vice-Captain in both Primary and Secondary sections. Additionally, all teachers are allocated to a House, with one teacher in each section acting as the House Coordinator.
Values and Competition
The House System is key to keeping the CGB values and qualities alive. It reinforces a sense of cooperation and teamwork among students and teachers, making us a unique institution. During the school year, students participate in Sports Days, Inter-house competitions, or simply strive to go “above and beyond” in their lessons to earn House Points.
House Points
Pupils are awarded House Points for positive contributions such as academic achievement, effort, personal improvement, and kindness, among others.
There is a termly House Point competition. During Flag Raising Ceremonies, the running totals and current rankings for each House are announced. At the end of the year, an annual trophy is presented to the House with the most points. Specific trophies are also awarded to the winners of the various Inter-House competitions held throughout the year.
Uniform
All students are required to have a House shirt to be worn during House matches. These can be acquired at Jubalai, our uniform provider, and may be worn with the school tracksuit.
