November – Kale

The Friday before (10/27/17): This month we are celebrating kale. It is a dark green leafy vegetable that grows well in the colder months. As the weather gets cooler this time of year, ask your parents to add kale leaves to your next soup. It offers a lot of nutrients including calcium, vitamin K, and vitamin C. Calcium helps with strong bones, vitamin K helps stop cuts from bleeding, and vitamin C helps prevent us from getting sick.

The Monday of (10/30/17): Happy Monday! Are you an adventurous eater? It is important to try new foods and experiences because how do we know if we like something if we don’t try it first? At the end of this week, we will be offering kale during lunch. We challenge you to try it!

The Friday of (11/3/17): Happy Friday! Today we are offering a green you may not be as familiar with. The vegetable is kale and it will be offered in our Power Up Café during lunch today. We want to challenge you to try this healthy and tasty vegetable. It can be enjoyed in salads, soups, smoothies, or sautéed or baked. We hope you enjoy!
