Minors under 16:
Federal law extremely limits the hours that minors under the age of 16 can work. Approved work permit required before hiring.
Minors 16 and 17:
Written permission by the parent or guardian required.
When is a Parental Permission Form required?
Employers are required to have on file at the work place, at the time employment begins, written permission by the parent or guardian of a 16 or 17 year old permitting the youth's employment.

Year Round Restrictions - Can NEVER work:
More than 10¼ hours per day
When school is in session:
Not more than 5 consecutive days
Not more than 35 hours per week
During Summer (Usually June 1 - Labor Day) - SCHOOL MUST NOT BE IN SESSION:
Not more than 48 hours per week
These restrictions apply even if the minor is home schooled.
For ALL employees working more than 5 hours: A 30 minute luch or eating period is required. If the employer cannot allow thirty minutes the employee must be paid if they are eating and working at the same time.
