Minors under 16:
Federal law extremely limits the hours that minors under the age of 16 can work.
Minors 16 and 17:
Can NOT work
During school hours
More than 6 consecutive days per week
Before 6:30 am or after 11:00 pm
More than 8 hours per day when school is scheduled the following day
More than 30 hours per week when school is in session
All minors must receive a 30 minute break when scheduled for 4 hours or more.
These rules do not apply to minors 16 and 17 years of age who have graduated from high school or received a high school equivalency diploma or have a valid certificate of exemption issued by the school superintendent.
