Hello there! I'm Sofía, this year's Physical Education teacher.
In this blog I'm going to be posting some of the things that we are learning and working in class.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
RULES IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION (P. E.)
This trimester we are constantly working in some basic rules:
BODY AWARENESS
We have been also working on our bodies and their different parts, being able to identify some of their main parts.
What's more, they made bodies using some of the available materials. Would you like to see one example of their creations? Here we go!
WORKING STATIONS
We were practising our skills in the gym working in stations: we played twister, we rolled on the mats like croquettes, we played some kind of bowling... IT WAS FUN!
LATERALITY
In P. E. we have been also working on laterality, this is the two parts of our body (right and left). Sometimes it's a bit confusing, but we are improving!
In addition, to discover our dominant side, we are practising and bouncing the ball like in basketball. This will undoubtedly help us to improve the use of our non-dominant side.
TEMPORAL PERCEPTION
The second trimester has started, and we're learning about something really important such as rhythm and temporal perception.
In order to do so, we have been playing with different materials passing them slowly and fast, copying rhythms and even dancing in class. Here you can see some pictures of our boys and girls having fun in P.E. classes:
COORDINATION
Another physical ability that we are working on in class is coordination, focusing mainly on general dynamic coordination, hand-eye coordination and foot-eye coordination.
Here you can see them playing and working on the development of this very important physical ability:
COOPERATIVE CHALLENGES
During these days we have also had time to work as a team and cooperatively to achieve common goals thanks to some cooperative challenges. We had a great time learning to work together!
BALANCE
Another relevant skill that we were working on was Balance. It's fun playing at the same time that we're improving our static and dynamic balance. We use ropes, benches, the lines on the floor.. we are very creative and imaginative with the equipment!
Here you can see how we improved our balance in class while we have a great time!
DIFFERENT DISPLACEMENTS
After improving our balance, we've been moving in differents ways: skipping, doing butt kicks, creeping, crawling, climbing, jumping... It was necessary to coordinate our whole bodies to do so, and sometimes t was such a challenge... but it was cool!
🇮🇪 GAELIC FOOTBALL - ST. PATRICK'S DAY 🇮🇪
this year, to commemorate St. Patrick's Day, we've learned how to play a typical Irish sport: Gaelic Football. We really have fun learning the basic rules of the sport and playing some matches.
Thank you so much Garreth for your patience and dedication during this week, it's been a wonderful experience!
🇮🇪 If you wan to know more about GAELIC FOOTBALL, here you have a video to learn about it! 🇮🇪
JUMPING AND SPINING AROUND
Later, we've working on jumping and spining and they've do so in very different ways: skipping rope, doing somersaults, spining on mats, jumping forwards, backwards, laterally, different heights... And in fact, they have improved a lot!
it's been challenging and fun!
THROWS AND CATCHES
After that, during the month of april, we've been working on throwing and catching different kinds of balls, focusing on aiming and correctly receiving the balls thrown by our friends following the teacher's instructions.
DATCHBALL
DATCHBALL is an alternative sport created in Aragón in 2005 by P.E. teacher Roberto NAvarro. It's an adaptation of what we know as dodgeball or balón prisionero.
Here you have a video in which you can see the main rules and signs of identity of this sport:
Kids have had a great time learning how to play to this sport and they seem to love playing it!
HEALTHY HABITS
We've also working on something as relevant as healthy food and the importance of distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy food. To do so, they were racing and moving their body at the same time that they were making a salad or classifying different foods as healthy or unhealthy.
