Future Forward Fundraiser
In partnership with SOAR First, we hosted our annual Back-to-School Bash, serving over 800 students with backpacks and essential school supplies to start the year strong. Laughter, excitement, and anticipation filled the air as families lined up, not just for supplies, but for the sense of confidence and readiness that comes with being prepared.
Thanks to the generosity of our partners and supporters, no child left empty-handed and no student began the school year unprepared. Each backpack was more than a bag of supplies, it was a boost of encouragement, a reminder that their community believes in their potential, and a first step toward a successful school year.
The Skills Center staff traded their desks for sand as they headed to Treasure Island to compete in the Coastal Corporate Sports Fest: Blast on the Beach. Facing off against companies from across the region, our team brought their A-game to a lineup of challenges including volleyball, cornhole toss, dodgeball, and the ultimate beach test—tug-of-war.
With grit and laughter in equal measure, our crew battled their way to the Final Four in tug-of-war, proving that strength, strategy, and teamwork go hand in hand. The day was filled with sunshine, friendly competition, and plenty of team spirit, reminding us that whether on the court, in the office, or on the sand, The Skills Center knows how to work hard and have fun.
The family of Hezekiah B. Walters delivered a powerful message to our community about the importance of CPR training following his tragic passing. During our summer programming, the American Heart Association provided hands-on CPR training, equipping our youth with skills that could save lives.
During their national Conclave in Tampa, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. hosted a youth symposium at The Skills Center. Students learned valuable lessons on conflict resolution, social media integrity, financial literacy, and more, helping them navigate life with confidence and responsibility.
Opportunity knocked and our youth answered! The Skills Center hosted the Youth Opportunity Expo, connecting job seekers ages 14–24 with real pathways to employment. Partnering with Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa, Career Source, and other local employers, the event offered teens and young adults the chance to explore summer jobs, internships, and community programs all in one place.
The best part? No registration was required, students could simply show up, meet recruiters face-to-face, and leave with connections that could shape their futures. Attendees also had the chance to earn 20 community service hours, enjoy complimentary food, and take part in a lively, supportive atmosphere that celebrated ambition and opportunity.
The Expo wasn’t just about finding a job, it was about building confidence, expanding networks, and opening doors for our next generation of leaders.
