Wayne Fletcher enters his 7th season as the head varsity boys' basketball coach at Central Dauphin High School. In the six previous seasons the Rams have gone 97-44 and have re-established themselves as one of the top teams in the Mid Penn Commonwealth as well as in District 3.
During his time at Central Dauphin Coach Fletcher and his staff has had the opportunity to coach a 1,000 point scorer (Ryan Smith), a MaxPreps All-American (Malachi Palmer) two of the four CD players ever to be named to the PA All State Team (Donovan Hill/Wayne Fletcher II), 12 Penn Live Big 15 recipients, 14 Mid Penn Commonwealth All-Stars, and 17 players who went on to play basketball at the collegiate level (Division I, II, III, NAIA, and JUCO).
A native of New York City, Fletcher played at Manhattan Center High School (Rams) where he led his team to the city championship game as a junior. He finished his career as a 2- time All Manhattan choice, a 2-time H.M. All City Selection, and a McDonald’s All- American nominee (H.M. All-American)
A 1993 graduate of Manhattan Center, Coach Fletcher did a brief stint in prep school before being offered a scholarship to play at Clarion University of PA in 1994. A 3-year letter winner at Clarion, Fletcher was voted team captain as a sophomore and a junior. After graduating from Clarion in 1998 with a BSBA in Management, Wayne decided to enroll (and graduate in 2000) in the Master of Science (Electronic Media) program at Kutztown University where he played his senior season of eligibility as graduate transfer. There he earned his 4th basketball letter and was voted the team captain.
Wayne’s coaching career also began during his senior season. He helped to break down game film on the competition and provide scouting reports for his teammates. The following season Wayne assumed greater responsibilities as a graduate student assistant coach. After almost 2 years of coaching on the collegiate level, Wayne decided to step away from the game to pursue a career in sales.
After a decade away from coaching, Wayne dove back into the coaching world when he and his family moved to the greater Harrisburg area in 2010. He spent several years successfully coaching AAU basketball (Mid Penn Motion, South Central Select, Central PA Elite), youth rec and travel basketball as well as coaching the 8th grade team at Eagleview Middle School.
Coach Fletcher is currently a social studies teacher at Central Dauphin High School. He and his wife Tricia have a son, Wayne II (NCAA DI Navy signee) and a daughter, Kayla (NCAA DI softball Duke Commit).
