My idea for my landscape painting was to paint something that means something to me. I painted a city skyline, I took inspiration from a trip I took with my siblings to Chicago. I wanted to paint a city for my landscape because cities are my favorite places to be and Chicago brings me happiness whenever I visit. To paint this I first started by painting the background a dark grayish blue color and then traced a photo onto the canvas. The first part I painted were the trees and lake because I thought they would be easiest. To paint the bushes and trees I used a dark green at first and went over to add details with a light green. I painted the skyscrapers a grey color with yellow and white to portray the windows. For the lake I used blue and black acrylic paint to show that it was a lake but a night time. For a lot of the parts I had to use two different colors to achieve detail and the right color. When painting this my intention was to show the beauty and good parts of a city. When people look at the painting I want people to see how freeing being in a big city can be and make you feel. The hardest part when painting this painting was adding the detail into the skyscrapers and painting the railing of the lake because they are such small things to paint. Everytime I mess up on painting one of those parts I just restarted and changed the brush or amount of paint I was using and accepted how it would look. This painting is a realistic painting representing the city of Chicago. What makes this painting unique to my style is the experience I had being in the painting and the painting technique I used while creating it. I like how in painting the city is surrounded by nature, in a way I think it shows peacefulness.
