For my baseline painting I wanted to paint something that I enjoy painting which are skylines such as sunsets or sunrises. So for my baseline painting I wanted to try something a little different by painting a nighttime sky with more detail. I painted a Japanese cherry blossom tree on a cliff in the dark night. I got inspiration from other artwork that incorporated trees in them. When painting this I used acrylic paint instead of watercolor paint because it felt more fitting. I first painted the background by blending black and blue together to create a night sky. Next I painted the moon and then the cliff. After that the last thing I painted was the cherry blossom tree. I started with the trunk of the tree and worked my way up to the petals. When painting the petals, I just dabbed my paintbrush on the paper to make a texture circle that looked like little flowers. I used pink at first then white to make it look more detailed. I struggled when painting the moon because I couldn’t get it to have a good circular shape. To blend the background I used water to make it blend smoother and easier. The artwork shows new beginnings because generally Japanese cherry blossom trees bloom in the spring which is the beginning of new life. I want people to think of new beginnings and a new fresh, peaceful start when looking at the painting. This painting is a realism painting by capturing a tree blooming. What makes this painting unique to my own art style is that I have never really painted nature and I did well on the tree. I love how the tree stands out, it has the most color out of the painting and is the main focus point of the painting.
