My idea stemmed from a photo I took of a strawberry smoothie. After that, I looked for a cartoon version of a strawberry smoothie. I painted a sunset with clouds last year and I enjoyed painting the clouds so I thought it would be fun to have a background that is fun and stands out. I started out mixing lake blue with a little bit of black and painted the entire background. Then I used a fan brush and a small circle brush to paint the clouds. I'm happy with the textured look of them. After that, I used transfer paper to trace the smoothie onto the canvas. I started by painting the main part of the smoothie pink and then added lighter pinks to give it more dimension. I painted the base baby blue and added dark blue for depth. I added the cherry, whipped cream, and straw then began outlining with black to make it stand out and look even more cartoon-like. I want the audience who views this to go back to a happy time because you can never be upset with a strawberry smoothie, I feel it's a very light and energetic painting. I was stressed about how to make the whipped cream look good but once I left it alone I ended up loving it. I wouldn't redo this painting I think I learned so much and loved the entire journey of painting it. This painting is surreal. It's personal to me because i love being out of the box.Â
