I wanted to make a friendship heart with Nicole. We thought we were gonna make ridges in the middle where it connects but then we thought it would look like a broken heart and we didn't want that. How did I make this? I started with a ball of clay and flattened it as much as possible. Then I used my hand to shape the edges. Once it was shaped, I carved the words and mine and Nicole's initials into it. I let the magnet dry for a few days, then painted it with paint and used a paint marker in the word crevices. It symbolizes friendship. I want the audience to think about their close friends and maybe a friendship bracelet or necklace they once gave or received. With this heart, I struggled to get the shape right. To fix this next time I will use the slab roller instead of trying to make it flat and even with my hands, and then I will just cut the shape out. If I were to redo this heart I would paint it better. I would say this is realistic art because it's not anything crazy or different. This artwork is personal and special to me because it's very loud and colorful and also just very sweet.
I made a dip bowl. I got this idea because Ms. Garrity wanted us to try and make bowls. I really love the color green which is why I chose it. I used the slab roller to make my ball of clay as flat as possible. I then use a foam circle to shape my bowl. and I made it smooth. I used an imprint to get more texture and pattern. i think this bowl should make people not think rather than trying to make them think about it. i really struggled making the edges smooth and making the pattern imprint enough. This is realistic art because its something simple that you can use in everyday life.
This is my second clay project I've done and Ms. Garrity had us make them as a class. I chose green because its my favorite color. I started with a big slab of flat clay and used a stencil to outline the shape. then I imprinted a pattern on it and folded it together and smoothed the edges. i then let it dry out and glazed it with green and oateal glaze. Then I fired it in the kiln. I want an audience to not know the exact purpose and use this pitcher in their mind any way they would like to. The bottom of my pitcher fell of so I needed to smooth it out more and it was very hard to glaze the inside or the pitcher without a bottom. I believe this is realistic art because you can use it in everyday life.
I made a bowl. I got this idea because Ms. Garrity wanted us to try and make bowls on the wheel I really love the color green which is why I chose it. I used the wheel and my hands to shape the clay into a bowl. I also used a sponge to help shape it and smooth it. I used equal pressure with my hands to make a semetrical bowl. This bowl should make people feel comfy. i really struggled making the bowl semetrical but it finally got there. This is realistic art because its something simple that you can use in everyday life.
I made this bowl. I got this idea because Ms. Garrity wanted us to try and make bowls on the wheel I really love the color green which is why I chose it, I did this same color on some of my other works and really liked it. I used the wheel and my hands to shape the clay into a bowl. I also used a sponge to help shape it and smooth it. Ms. Garrity helped me when I was having trouble. I used my hands to create a dip in the middle and worked it into a big hole. This bowl should make people feel like themselves. I really struggled making the bowl tall and moving the sides up but it finally got there. This is realistic art because its something simple that you can use in everyday life.
