This course will focus on strengthening students’ reading, writing, and researching skills. We will review basic writing and use sentence combining to learn grammar. There will be times that we study a book as a class and times that students can choose what they read. We will read at least one play together, have discussions, and give presentations. Possible texts include: Night, The Martian, Othello, The Catcher in the Rye, and Pride.

What makes a strong paragraph? How do we know if we should we believe what we read online? How do I determine the main claim or theme of a story? How do I create a clear, concise piece of writing? In this class, we’ll explore some of these questions and more!

This course will focus on different forms of creative writing including poetry, short stories, opinion pieces, and children’s stories. We will be responding to art, literature, music, etc. and practicing ways to overcome writer’s block.

This course is aimed at juniors and seniors who would like custom-made projects based on ELA requirements.

This course will emphasize literature analysis, writing, and an examination of language. We will read a combination of literary fiction, popular fiction, poetry, memoir, and historical nonfiction. Writing, critical thinking, and discussions are expected to gain a deeper understanding of class texts.

Students will engage in a demanding curriculum emphasizing language study, writing, and literature analysis. They will study the influence that a country or region’s history and culture have on the text and examine the universal questions that the classics raise. The literature studies will provide a base of knowledge for post-secondary study. Possible texts include The Once and Future King, Much Ado About Nothing, Flowers for Algernon, and Frankenstein. Students are responsible for summer work that must be completed for the first day of class.
