Acting as engineers, first grade students learn how scientists and inventors look to nature for inspiration. As students learn about biomimicry they engage in solving problems for their storybook friends Gerald and Piggie! Students will look to nature to find ways to help Gerald swim and Piggie fly...or glide with style like Buzz Lightyear. Children plan their designs and create prototypes for their inventions. Using prior knowledge from kindergarten, students practice coding with Bee-bot. During these coding activities they will practice map skills helping Gerald and Piggie explore various places.Â
