The Changing Learning Environment
Intro to the Changing Learning Environment (SAMR)
SESSION OVERVIEW
"One-size Fits All" doesn't work for today's learner. Personalized learning lets teachers tailor learning objectives to individuals (individualized instruction) as well as in how students do their best learning (differentiation). Teachers in effective digital classrooms use technology to give students what they need, when and how they best learn.
Activity A: SAMR Exploration (20 min)
Using the Picture Cards, find a new partner for this activity.
Review the SAMR model here. As a group, briefly discuss what the differences are in lessons that are Substitution/Augmentation and lessons that "cross the line" to Modification/Redefinition.
3 Truths and a Lie is a strategy to help learners discern the important information from an article or video. Review this strategy and create 3 truths and 1 lie for SAMR with your group.
Post your "3 Truths and Lie" in the green boxes in Google Draw here. Can you identify the "lie" in other groups' posts? Would you like your own template of this sort? Click here.
Let's reflect on this Swimming Pool model of SAMR.
Activity B: SAMR Sort (30 min)
We use "Across the Line" to indicate that SAMR isn't a hierarchy but rather a continuum you will travel along. Work with your group mates to decide if these lessons are on the S/A or M/R side of the line. Have one team member make a copy of the SAMR sort you want to use and share it with the rest of the team.
Digital Sort Link: Cut and paste the cards together or individually and sort each lesson into the appropriate column. When you're done, put your answers into the Google Form to find out how you did.
Hard Copy Sort
Post on the Mentimeter in a word or phrase, "What is the single most important thing you need to move your lessons across the line?"

Video Sort Link: Watch the videos together or individually, and sort each video into the appropriate column.
Answer Key- Please don't look until you're finished!
Activity C: Review The 4 C's (10 min)
Reflection
We have learned about SAMR, discuss as a group how the 4C Model below ties SAMR & good instruction together.
Discuss with your group how you can tie in SAMR & the 4C's.
Post to the DOT STORMING! board regarding your discussion and then vote up to 3 times with other statements you agree with.
