CCPS expects students and staff to utilize these resources in a manner consistent with this policy.
All CCPS students and staff are responsible for their actions and activities involving the school districts computers, electronic devices, network and Internet services, and for their computer files, passwords and accounts.
The rules and guidelines in the division acceptable use policy detail responsible use of electronic information resources under which students, staff, and all members of the Culpeper community, herein referred to as “users,” will be held accountable. The rules and guidelines outlined in that policy provide general guidance concerning the use of school computers and other electronic devices and provide examples of prohibited uses. The rules do not attempt to describe every possible prohibited activity.
Students, parents and school staff who have questions about whether a particular activity is prohibited are encouraged to contact a building administrator. These rules apply to all school computers, all school-provided electronic devices wherever used, all uses of school servers, and Internet access and networks regardless of how they are accessed.
Dear student and parent(s):
Culpeper County Public Schools provides a Chromebook to promote learning at anytime and anywhere. This device is an important part of your school’s curriculum and will be an important tool for your growth in digital citizenship. You may take the device home once you and your parent/guardian have read and agreed to the terms on the form that will be provided to you (or available for print from here).
Terms of Student Usage Agreement
Students will abide by all policies outlined in the Culpeper County School Board's Standards of Student Conduct provided to each student at the beginning of the year. This includes a signed statement relative to the ACCEPTABLE COMPUTER SYSTEM USE—SCHOOL BOARD POLICY IIBEA-SR1/GAB-SR1 (pp.52-54).
Students acknowledge that any issued device is the property of Culpeper County Public Schools. It is yours to use, but it is owned by the school division. You will return the device to Culpeper County Public Schools upon your withdrawal from the school division, at announced collection times, or immediately upon the request of a teacher, administrator or other school division official. Failure to return the Chromebook, for any reason, when requested to do so, or when withdrawing from Culpeper County Public Schools will result in a full replacement charge. Students will not be issued a new Chromebook until the replacement fee is paid or the original Chromebook is returned.
Students will make available for inspection by any school administrator or teacher any messages or files sent or received on their CCPS-issued device.
Students will report to responsible school personnel any incidents of inappropriate electronic communications transmitted in any form using CCPS-owned technology.
Students will not, in any way, deface the device, mark the device, or adhere any non-CCPS approved items.
Students will bring their issued device, fully-charged, with them to school each day.
Students will not disassemble any part of the Chromebook, seek out repairs from non-CCPS entities, or attempt any repairs on your own.
CCPS is not responsible for any charges relative to data overages. As an example, Google Chrome Operating System will periodically update. Be aware as this may be a large download if updates are not conducted regularly. Pursue free WiFi when not on campus if possible.
Students will adhere to these terms each time the device is used, including when not on school grounds.
If misplaced (lost) or other damage occurs, students and their parent or guardian agree to any applicable charges outlined in the repair cost list. The charges are intended to promote good habits and responsible handling of CCPS-issued devices.
Devices reported as stolen outside of school require that parents notify local law enforcement (non-emergency line) and the school administration (including the School Resource Officer - SRO). A police report should be provided to school administrators as soon as possible.
I. First incident:
There is no charge for the first incident resulting in accidental damage to the Chromebook as it is covered under the CCPS warranty. Parents will receive a bill with no charge for these repairs as notification.
II. Second and subsequent incidents:
Parent/Student is responsible for any and all additional hardware repair costs in accordance with the provided repair cost list (2024). Multiple incidents of damage may result in loss of right to take home the Chromebook or other use restrictions.
III. Intentional Damage:
Full price of repair or replacement (up to $320) for an intentionally damaged or lost mobile device and a parent/guardian meeting with administrator required. School administrators may assign other consequences as related to school discipline procedures.
Note - A parent/guardian and the student must complete the paper version of this document in order to receive the Chromebook for home use. Failing to accept responsibility for the device will result in the student being a day user.
