That Night, Under the Moon and Stars

Tyler Turner

It was a warm, June night. The wind blew softly, making the leaves of the trees rustle, which made it colder. And yet, we didn’t seem to care. We sat on the roof of my mother’s house, just inches apart, maybe less. Above us was a dark sky, the full moon high up in the twilight. I could see stars scattered across the sky, glittering like tiny white gems.

As I looked at Bailey, I felt a strange feeling build up inside my very being. I couldn’t quite explain what it was. But what I did know was that it was getting stronger. Bailey looked so gorgeous. Her long, platinum blond hair seemed to attract the light of the moon. Behind her glasses, her blue-green eyes caught the starlight, making them sparkle and gleam. I could see the smile on her face; it was kind, soft, gentle. I never knew just how beautiful she was until now.

For some reason, my body moved on its own. I felt my hand as it slowly and gently made its way on top of Bailey’s. Her skin was warm and smooth, unlike my rough-skinned hands. In the moonlight, I could see Bailey’s face flush into a light shade of pink. I quickly looked away; I felt the urge to let her go. However, she didn’t pull her hand away, so I guessed she didn’t mind. I felt her hand close around my fingers, giving it a gentle squeeze. I did the same in response. The strange feeling seemed to intensify significantly.

I lifted my hand off of hers and slowly and gently and wrapped my arm around her shoulder. I didn’t bring her to me; she did that on her own. She scooted over and leaned into me, her head against my chest. I gazed down at her, and she looked right back at me. Her eyes and expression were soft, kind. She looked directly at my gaze.

Once again, I felt the feeling expand. It had surged throughout my whole body. I brought a gentle hand to Bailey’s face, cupping her cheek. My body was out of my control, and I embraced it. We both smiled at each other. Man, she had such a wondrous smile. Without thinking, I leaned forward to her, and she did the same. Were slowly closed the gap between us. But just before we could touch, I shied away. I instantly regretted it: I should’ve done it. But I was too nervous. I saw Bailey roll her eyes and lock her lips onto mine. I felt my face grow warm and my eyes pop out of my head as her lips landed on mine. She was kissing me! It was amazing. The softness and the taste of her lips was a heaven I never knew existed.

I felt myself relax and I kissed her in return. I wrapped my arms around her, not letting go. We kissed each other slowly, making the moment last for as long as we possibly could.

To this day, I still remember that night. I still remember our first kiss. It is something I will treasure for the rest of my days.
