Anxiety & Panic Attacks
How should a student handle anxiety/panic attacks in public and private settings?
"Deep breathing is important, in through the nose and out through the mouth. If you're at school, go to the clinic or counselors office, and at home, deep breathing and talking to your parents will help. Exercise grounding techniques - think about 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you can smell, 2 things you can touch & 1 thing you can taste. It helps to distract you and connects the upstairs and downstairs brain and calms you down."
Eating Disorders
What do you think is the easiest way to overcome an eating disorder?
"See a doctor, because eating disorders can become life-threatening. Therapy is very helpful, despite it being intimidating. Focus on your physical and mental health - remember that you matter and you need to take care of body. Put gas in the car!"
Therapy
How can a student overcome their fear of therapy?
"Try to understand that it is a safe place free from judgement. It's important to have someone you can trust and go to if you're in danger or if somebody you know is in danger. Talking with someone who has a different perspective than you and doesn't know your life or family personally can be very helpful. It can feel refreshing to see through a new outlook."
