If you have any further questions about the Rocks & Crystals Club, contact Ms. Bartley in Room 202!
Do you have a favorite rock or crystal?
Yes, I'd say Topaz!
How did this club start?
This club started last year when a lot of my students wanted to get together and show their crystals, so I thought, "Let's just make a rocks and crystals club!"
How would you describe the club in three words?
Fun, interesting, and informative!
What is your favorite thing about the club?
Seeing how students get excited about rocks and crystals!
What kind of activities will happen in the club?
People will share their crystals and there will be some guest speakers!
How can the students benefit from this club?
You can learn more about rocks and crystals from what they've learned from earth science!
Interview with Ms. Laubenthal, sponsor of the Math Art Club
If you have any further questions about the Math Art Club, contact Ms. Laubenthal in Room 114!
What is one thing you like doing with math art?
I love drawing and creativity but I can't draw very well, so being able to draw with a compass and ruler lets me have that creative outlet! It also has a lot of symmetry and patterns which I find really pleasing to the eye. A lot of the patterns that I draw come from different cultures, so it also lets me explore some historical and cultural differences.
How did this club start?
When we have downtime during class or when we need a mental break, we do a day of drawing or origami, and my students really enjoy it! As my students move onto 8th grade, I miss drawing with them. I thought that if I started a club after school, we would have more time to draw, and I would also have an opportunity to draw with some of my old students.
How would you describe the club in three words?
Creative, relaxing, and fantastic!
What is your favorite thing about the club?
The fact that there is no wrong answer or one set way to be artistic, and everyone's picture comes out different but we all still enjoy our end result.
What kind of activities happen in the club?
Drawing, coloring, and sometimes origami!
How can students benefit from this club?
The students will realize that math isn't always just numbers, and it is possible to be good at art but not feel like you have to be fantastic at drawing. It also builds confidence in a good way, and socializing while coloring is just fun, therapeutic, and enjoyable for many students.
