ENSEMBLES

Concert Band

Everyone is a part of the concert bands at their level of performance.  They play a wide range of concert literature including marches, concert works, pop literature and even some jazz. Most of our freshmen go into the Concert Band which plays level 3-4 music. Our second band is Symphonic Band which plays level 4-5 music and Wind Ensemble is our top ensemble that plays level 6. If you are a 9th grader, your middle school band director will help us place you in the appropriate ensemble. Upperclassmen are placed based on nine-week auditions.

Football Marching Band

All students are encouraged to participate in our most visible group with the exception of some of our fall athletes. Even those students join us when they can for the outdoor musical/visual experience. There is nothing like being in front of hundreds of cheering supporters under the big lights on Friday night. The Evans High School Football Marching Band performs a crowd-friendly show on Friday Night football games. is a competitive ensemble that performs a musically and visually intensive show, designed to compete at marching contests against other bands comparable to our level. The group performs at 3 competitions during the fall.

Competitive Marching Band

Students also have the opportunity to audition for our Competition Marching Band. This ensemble performs on Friday nights as well as Saturday Competitions in the month of October.  The Evans High School Competition Band is a competitive ensemble that performs a musically and visually intensive show, designed to compete at marching contests against other bands comparable to our level. The group performs at 3 competitions during the fall.

Jazz Band

We offer up to 2 different jazz groups for our students.  This American-born genre of music is one that many students find appealing. Students must be enrolled in a concert band class to try out for the jazz bands. The Jazz Bands will perform at various school, district, and community events throughout the year. Jazz Band sign-ups begin in September, and all rehearsals will be held after school.

Colorguard/Winterguard

The goal of the Evans High School Colorguard Program is to provide an opportunity for students to participate in representing their school, to grow as individuals and team members, to teach performance skills, and to build self‐confidence and self‐esteem. Group activities require that an individual put aside their personal feelings for the good of the group.  What is required of one is required of all.  When each individual is willing to give up a small part of himself/herself, the group benefits as a whole.  Personal sacrifice and understanding the dynamics of a team will be crucial to becoming the best color guard member possible.

Other Performance Opportunities

Students also have other performance opportunities at Evans High School including being a member of the colorguard or drum line in the fall, various chamber ensembles that perform throughout the year, and by becoming a member of one of our jazz bands or percussion ensemble. Students also have the opporunity to audition for District and All-State Band, and be considered for Honor Band Clinics throughout the state. Enrollment in a concert band class is required to participate in all of these activities.
