Welcome to Technical Theatre! In this course, students will explore the creative and technical processes that bring theatrical productions to life. Students will learn the foundations of theatrical design and production through hands-on experiences in areas such as scenery, props, costumes, makeup, lighting, sound, and marketing.
Throughout the course, students will develop skills in design concepts, construction techniques, safety procedures, and industry-standard practices used in theatre production. Students will learn how to interpret scripts, research production concepts, create design plans, develop technical paperwork, and collaborate with directors, performers, and other designers to support a unified artistic vision.
Students will explore how technical elements influence storytelling by examining mood, tone, symbolism, and historical context. Through projects, production work, and critiques, students will practice evaluating and refining their designs while learning how professional theatre artists approach problem-solving and collaboration.
By the end of the course, students will have a stronger understanding of technical theatre careers, stage technology, design processes, and the teamwork required to create successful theatrical experiences. This course encourages creativity, craftsmanship, communication, and the development of practical skills that extend beyond the stage.
