Advanced Acting

Welcome to Advanced Acting! In this course, students will continue to develop their skills as theatre artists through advanced exploration of acting techniques, character development, scene work, and performance. Students will build upon foundational acting skills while developing a deeper understanding of the artistic, collaborative, and professional processes involved in theatrical performance.

Throughout the course, students will explore advanced approaches to character creation through script analysis, research, improvisation, emotional connection, physical expression, and vocal technique. Students will learn how to make thoughtful performance choices by analyzing dramatic texts, understanding character objectives, and exploring the relationships between actors, directors, and audiences.

Students will participate in individual and ensemble performance experiences, including scenes, monologues, and theatrical productions. Through rehearsal, performance, peer feedback, and reflection, students will strengthen their ability to evaluate and refine their work while developing confidence, discipline, and professionalism as performers.

Students will also examine various acting styles, theatrical genres, and performance traditions while exploring the historical and cultural influences that shape theatre. Through the study of professional actors, directors, and performance practices, students will gain a greater understanding of the expectations and opportunities within the theatre industry.

By the end of the course, students will have developed stronger skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and artistic expression. Advanced Acting challenges students to become more versatile, confident, and intentional performers while preparing them for continued study and performance opportunities in theatre.
