Musical Theatre

Welcome to Musical Theatre! In this course, students will explore the unique art form of musical theatre through the integration of acting, singing, and dance. Students will develop the skills necessary to create believable characters, communicate stories through performance, and understand the collaborative process required to bring a musical production to life.

Throughout the course, students will study the structure and elements of musical theatre by analyzing how music, lyrics, movement, and text work together to advance a story. Students will explore performance techniques including vocal development, movement, choreography, acting choices, character development, and ensemble collaboration. Students will also learn the responsibilities of performers, directors, choreographers, designers, and production teams within the theatrical process.

Students will engage in rehearsals, performances, critiques, and reflection to strengthen their artistic skills and develop confidence as performers. Through constructive feedback and evaluation, students will learn how to refine their work, make informed artistic choices, and approach performance with professionalism and creativity.

Students will also explore the history, cultural significance, and evolution of musical theatre while examining the careers and opportunities available within the industry. By connecting musical theatre to history, society, and other artistic disciplines, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the impact of this uniquely collaborative art form.

By the end of the course, students will have developed stronger skills in acting, singing, movement, teamwork, communication, and creative expression while gaining a greater understanding of what it takes to create and perform musical theatre at a high level.
