The Career Development Conference (CDC), better known as States, is an annual competition trip to Orlando, Florida! This year it's from March 6th to 9th. It's a 4 day trip (Thursday-Sunday) that focuses on taking your business skills to the next level. All students that qualify at districts to go to CDC are encouraged to come and compete. Those who made top 32 but not top 16 at districts are still able to "bump in" if a previous top 16 competitor drops out so if you don't originally make it don't lose hope!
Get in touch with our d of Competition (ana@cbhsdeca.org), an Executive Council member, an advisor, or attend our competition workshops to learn more or if you have any questions!
More information about States, what to bring to the trip, who qualified, distribution day, and all dates you need to know will be posted closer to March.
Testing Events
Do you like solving a challenge by thinking on your feet? Want to work by yourself or with a partner? Then try out the testing events!
If you are competing in a testing event with a team or individually, you will take your test BEFORE the trip. This event will be called Operation Preparation, where in addition to taking your official states test you will do a few practice presentations, or role-plays, in order to be fully prepared for when he time comes to put your skills to the test. In preparation for this, we have all our competitors attending go to a testing workshop, a role-play workshop, and a professional dress workshop! We encourage all testing students to read LAPs and take practice exams, both found on the DECA Members Canvas Page, to get your test score as high as possible.
During the trip, your only time competing will be through your one role-play. If you are testing individually, you will have 10 minutes to prepare your presentation and then 10 minutes to present to your judge(s). If you are testing in a team, however, you will be given 30 minutes to prepare and 15 minutes to present. At States, if you are in a testing event, your test is worth 33% of your score and your roleplay/presentation is worth 66%.
Manuals
Do you like having a prepared plan and an opportunity to rehearse? Want to work by yourself, partner, or even in a group of three? Then try out writing a manual!
If you are competing in a manual event with a team or individually, you will submit your paper BEFORE the trip. In preparation for States, we have all our competitors attending go to a manual workshop and a professional dress workshop!
During the trip, your only time competing will be through your presentation. You will be given 15 minutes of presentation time, regardless of your page amount. Some events, however, may include a preliminary and final round where you will need to present again if you make it past the preliminary round. At States, if you are in a integrated marketing campaign event, your test is worth 33% of your score and your presentation is worth 66%.
