Get introduced to the world of DECA competition!
DECA competition is an incredible way to prepare yourself for real world business situations, not to mention get involved in DECA itself. You pick events from the career clusters: business management and administration, hospitality and tourism, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, personal financial literacy. Competing in DECA is an amazing way to meet new friends, find your passion, and get familiarized with the real world business scenarios.
There are three kinds of competition in DECA: testing, manuals, and virtual events. For more information on the different categories, go to decaplus.com, deca.org, or review the Competition Guide pdf located below. Get in touch with our Director of Competition (ana@cbhsdeca.org), an Executive Council member, an advisor, or attend our competition workshops to learn more or if you have any questions!
Testing Events
There are multiple different categories you can compete in as an individual and a team tester (groups of 2). Students take a 100 question test in their career cluster. For team events, the scores are combined. Beyond the district level, students will do a roleplay. Students will receive a random case study related to their career cluster. Individuals have 10 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes to present. Teams have 30 minutes to prepare and 15 minutes to present.
**First year DECA members (not just freshmen!) can compete in the Business Administration Core events - the Principles events.
Manuals
There are two kinds of manuals - 10 pagers and 20 pagers. Despite 10 or 20 pages sounding like a lot, many students have to cut down on their content because they have so much to say! Manuals aren't just straight writing for 10 or 20 pages, it includes graphics and pictures so you have room to get creative with designing pages. There are many different categories for manuals, such as marketing plans (which does require students to take the marketing cluster exam), franchise business plans, operations research, and international business plans. Manuals can be written as an individual, a team of 2, or a team of 3.
Virtual Events
There are many virtual business challenge events, such as retailing, accounting, and sports and entertainment, that you can compete in. There is also the Stock Market Game - which we had a student win 5th place at the International level win last year! Contact your advisor or Mrs. Dubrow to sign up.
