AR Requirements

• The STAR test will be administered once per quarter to help determine your individual reading ranges and abilities.

• PAR = Students who achieve on PAR are reading on grade level or above for each quarter.

  • • Quarter 1 = 7.0+

    • Quarter 2 = 7.2+

    • Quarter 3= 7.5+

    • Quarter 4 = 7.7+

• • PAR students are required to read and test on at least one (1) additional novel of their choice every nine weeks..

    • • Required class novels do NOT count towards PAR.

      • PAR Book Requirements

Your book(s) must...

• be within or above your current reading range, as prescribed by the quarterly STAR test

• be worth at least  seven (7) AR points for fiction 

• AR= Students will be given a personalized Accelerated Reading goal based on your ZPD and a reading time requirement of 15+ minutes per day.

  • AR students are required to read AR books of their choice to obtain their prescribed AR goal.

    • • Required class novels CAN count towards an AR goal.

Your book(s) must...

• be worth at least  two (2) AR points for fiction 

Important Reminders:

• Each and every student is required to submit one completed CHOICE BOARD ACTIVITY per quarter.

• AR is worth 10% of your quarterly reading  grade:

PAR / AR GOAL (10 pts.) + AR CHOICE BOARD (10 pts.) = 20 pts. total

• Cheating will result in a zero, parental contact, and disciplinary action.

• If you'd like help reaching your goals and/or staying on track, ask Mrs. Beaumont for help.

• Books may be checked out from the CCS library or Mrs. Beaumont's classroom library, as well as the public library or a bookstore.  

• Utilize arbookfind.com to verify that the book you chose is AR.
