Scenery and Movement

When you see your lesson slipping, change up the place of the lesson. If your kids are at their desks, switch them to carpet or to other seats around the classroom.

If the weather is nice, take the lesson outside.

Take your kids on a field trip without even leaving the classroom by doing a room transformation.

Change your scenery virtually by creating a Bitmoji classroom! Click on the resources below to get started with your own virtual space:

Whole brain teaching is a philosophy of teaching and learning that aims to activate students' brains for maximal involvement in the learning process. Whole brain teaching uses kinesthetic movements and positive behavior systems to engage students. Watch the video to see whole brain teaching in action!

In your virtual journal, record strategies that the teacher uses to engage her students.

Movement strengthens learning by improving memory and retrieval. It also boosts the motivation and morale of the learner.

Choose activities that will get your students up and moving! 4 corners is an easy strategy that you can use in all subject areas.

Want to make it more challenging? Play jump ship! Have students explain their thinking and get other students to "jump ship" to their answer. Students can practice defending their choices or giving counterarguments. This strategy helps their critical thinking and communication skills.

In your virtual journal, explain how these strategies increase student engagement.
