4th Grade Chorus:

  • Songs can be important to us for many reasons. Sometimes they remind us about a time in our life, sometimes they give us joy, sometimes they make us motivated for a sports event, sometimes they give us comfort. Interview a family member and find out what song(s) is(are) important to them and why. If it is a song you don't know, look up a recording and listen to it!

Music - Mrs. Monke

The West

This week, you are going to learn a song from the Western region of the U.S. The song is from our most western state, Hawaii. The lyrics are partly in English and partly in the native Hawaiian language, which many Hawaiians still speak today. The song is called "Aloha Oe," which means "Farewell to thee" in Hawaiian. It is indeed a farewell song, and it is a very well-known song in Hawaii. The song was also included in the Disney movie "Lilo and Stitch," during a sad scene when the two sisters need to say goodbye to each other. Click on the attached video to watch the short movie clip: safeyoutube.net/w/46h3

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Aloha ʻoe, aloha ʻoe

E ke onaona noho i ka lipo

One fond embrace, A hoʻi aʻe au

Until we meet again

Click on this link to hear the pronunciation and repeat after me:
