Your guide to all things Slack.
Here are some tips to ensure that Slack is being used in the most efficient way possible:
Check the pinned/bookmarked posts. Some channels have useful posts pinned to the channel so that members can go back and refer to them when necessary. There are also links bookmarked to certain channels with relevant sites attached. Be sure to check the top banner of each channel to make sure you're not missing any important information.
Make sure to post in the correct Slack channel. There are a lot of them for a reason, so try to post it in the most accurate one! For instance, if you're asking a question about coworking post in #coworking-austin OR if you want to share a cool new restaurant you found, share it in #watercooler.
Please don't spam post. Limit your post to 2 channels max that you feel fit it the best, then if you don't get what you were looking for after a few days, feel free to try again in 2 more channels. Most members are in most of the channels and no one wants their phone blowing up with the same post over and over!
Utilize the @ button. If you need someone specific to see your post, just use the @ button to tag them and they'll get a personal notification with your post attached. This will ensure that they see your post and that you get your response as soon as possible.
Reply to a thread, not in a channel. When you want to reply to someone's post, use the "reply in thread" button so that you can start a thread and help keep the channel organized / free from clutter.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO POST. This is essentially Capital Factory's social platform for members to interact with each other and CF staff freely. No question is a dumb question and chances are that someone has the same one, so don't be afraid to post in the channels. This is a great way to introduce yourself, your company, your new product, or brag about a recent accomplishment as well. Also, we love when y'all share pictures of your furry friends, favorite drink spots, or anything of the sorts to #watercooler!
Click the drop down arrow next to the "Capital Factory" title and select "Preferences".
Here you can set up your notifications: keywords, schedule, sounds, badges, etc.
This is where you can customize appearance: pages shown, message & channel sorting, etc.
Click the name of the channel for a link directly to It!
This is a place to post any questions or statements regarding the Austin Downtown coworking space. Keep this channel's notifications on and check back regularly for any updates regarding the physical space.
#General-Austin / #General-Texas
This is for Austin-specific events, questions and discussion. If it’s not Austin-specific, post it to #general-texas or another channel instead!
Keep an eye on the General Texas channel at 9 am daily for posts about the events happening in our ecosystem that day!
Ask your questions and receive answers from CF Staff and members!
Pro-tip: messaging in a group/channel with multiple people is the best way to ensure that you get the best help possible.
Please try and include myself, Caroline Van Nuis, in all of your membership-related inquiries.
