Ceramics I is an introductory course to the basic techniques and practices of being a ceramic artist and a prerequisite to upper-level ceramics classes. This semester-long class offers hands-on experience with making art, familiarity with art vocabulary and concepts, and a broader understanding of the ceramic arts' role in contemporary society. Studio projects will explore two and three-dimensional design, glazing, and the 4 basic clay building techniques using stoneware. Historically significant techniques and influences will be presented and discussed with each project.
