Choice-Based Art

What is choice-based art education?

Choice-based art education promotes the importance of giving students choice over their learning in the art room. With each project, there will be a range of choices each students will be able to make. It may be as little as choosing the color scheme, or as much as being told to create a piece of art based on nature.

Studio Habits of Mind

Students will be assessed based on the 8 studio habits of mind, instead of final product. The process of making art, learning how to think like an artist, and problem-solving is far more valuable than a finished piece of art. For this reason, we applaud the breaks, the smudges, the rips, the cracks, and all the other "mistakes."

In my role as educator, teacher, facilitator, and mentor, I do not grade. Instead, students submit video reflections through Flipgrid and/or written reflections through Google Classroom and tell me what they have earned.
