Sculpture
Sculpture is an introductory course to the basic techniques and practices of being a sculptor. This semester offers hands-on experience with making 3D art, familiarity with art vocabulary and concepts, and a broader understanding of the sculptural arts role in contemporary society. Studio projects will explore additive, subtractive, and molding techniques using various media. Historically significant techniques and influences will be presented and discussed with each project. Â

Fantastical Creatures
Based on photographic references and our imagination, we will create original and unique creatures out of felt, yarn, and armature wire!
Mini-Project #2: stop motion
Short Film
A quick diversion from sculpting, we'll create short stop motion films in small groups using our creatures and dwelling!
Project #3: recycled materials
Art as Activism
Using recycled materials, you will comment/critique/talk about a social issue you feel strongly about.
Project #4: tape sculpture
Trust the Process
Inspired by Mark Jenkins, we'll be creating life-size human-esque sculptures out of packing tape to build a collaborative installation.
We'll start by casting our legs, and then...? Trust the process. With no end product in mind, we'll collaborate and brainstorm along the way as we make.
Project #5: clay
Observational Sculpture
Other possible projects include...
Mixed media
Identity
Using various mixed media including clay, paint, wood, found objects, wire, etc., we'll tell a story through our artwork.Â
