Canton Public Schools Distance Learning
The Canton Public Schools has developed a distance learning plan to ensure students can continue their education during this extended school closure. This site serves as a portal for information regarding distance learning as well as connections to specific school and class/grade level engaging instruction and purposeful assignments.
Remote teaching and learning will take many forms, however you can expect that there will be communication, progress monitoring, and/or feedback between teachers and students. While e-Learning is not the same as the regular classroom environment, it can provide some continuity when school is interrupted. It will also serve to further prepare our students for today's digital world.
School Calendar
The State of Connecticut has allowed Distance Learning days to count toward the 180-school day requirement. Completion of this Distance Learning work will not require additional school days to be added to the end of the school calendar. Therefore, the school year will end June 18, our regularly scheduled time.
Keeping Connected with Schools
Teachers (as well as administrators and other certified staff members) will be available by email or other digital learning spaces such as Google Classroom and district email. As additional communication requirements may arise, further two way communication methods may be employed, including video conferencing.
In general, teachers will communicate their expectations and daily assignments by 9 am each school day and will be available for communication through 3 pm each day. Teachers will monitor email and other communication with students and parents regularly throughout the school day and provide regular feedback to students. Lessons and learning activities will be available to students "on demand" each day.
Distance Learning Feedback
Distance Learning is a new process for all of us. We appreciate everyone's understanding and flexibility during this time. The Canton educational community is strong, and as a community we must work together to be flexible and understanding as this process develops.
In the future, we will reach out to students, staff, and parents for feedback so we can assess what went well and what can be improved.
Distance Learning Information
Academic Integrity
With a shift in instructional practices and organization, it is incumbent upon all of us to do our best in all we do and to ensure integrity throughout all our work. To that end, students, we encourage you to take your work seriously. Teachers have worked diligently to prepare information for you. As community members, let's work wisely and thoughtfully together.
All students are expected to comply with district standards and use positive, respectful language. Making sure that students have appropriate space and materials for learning will help them organize, focus, and develop consistent study habits.
FAMILY RESOURCES
The following links are available to provide families with resources to facilitate discussion and support during this challenging time. School counselors, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and administrators will continue to be available should you need further assistance.
