ITI "S. Cannizzaro" - Catania
GENERAL
The Institute is a Technical High School, named S. Cannizzaro, with over 120 teachers and about 1000 students ages 14 to 19. S. Cannizzaro has the following specializations: Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, and Mechanics. In the system of an Internships Program the school gives its students the opportunity to work with local companies and thanks to the collaboration of universities, companies, and training organizations students can apply their knowledge in the “real world job” outside the classroom and gain experience in their specific field of study.
MOTIVATION
The students that attend the school mostly come from uneducated and financially disadvantaged or unemployed families. The economic and social conditions the students live in, do not create positive motivation for learning. That’s why S. Cannizzaro wants to cooperate with foreign schools in order to keep the students from dropping out of high school and give them an important boost of academic energy. At this time of high unemployment in Europe, it is important to give our students a basic culture that can have a value in Europe. Employment, jobs, entrepreneurship, and business are important subjects for students. Offering a European experience to students, sharing our believes and values with schools in Europe is an opportunity to feel “European”. This will be an invaluable resource in seeking to address and alleviate the causes of social exclusion, promote good citizenship, enrich culture and enhance youth employability.
