WWII marked the beginning of a revolutionary technological advancement, the development of nuclear weaponry. Since then, it has been debated whether or not it was right to introduce this new type of weapon to the world. Welcome to our exhibit, where we are discussing the ethics behind the production of nuclear weapons.
We decided to create a vision board that has perspectives for and against nuclear weapons. We also decided to make origami cranes and hang them on a tree. On the tree, there are ornaments that have opinions from students and teachers answering, “Should nuclear weapons still be produced?”
Through all of this, we hope that you can take a few minutes of your day and dedicate it to our exhibit to not only learn about nuclear weapons but formulate your own opinions about their production. We wish for this to be a starting point to think more deeply about nuclear weapons.

We created an interactive installation in our library for our community, as shown above.
Cranes
The paper crane was a big symbol after the Hiroshima bombing. It was believed that after making 1,000 paper cranes, your wish would come true. Many survivors were affected by radiation sickness and leukemia.
A vision board is used to show a visual representation of an idea or topic. In our vision board, we focused on the pros and cons of nuclear weapons and the ethics of their production. On the left, where the colorful photos are, we have perspectives on why nuclear weapons should be produced. On the right, with the black and white photos, are perspectives against the production of atomic bombs.
We decided to place the flags of countries with nuclear weapons in the middle of the two sections. This way, we encourage you, the audience, to create your own opinion about the matter. This is also why, if you notice, the flags are half in color and half in black and white.
Identifying the pros and cons of something is easier than asking yourself: should we do this even under certain circumstances?
Unfortunately, the production of nuclear weapons has been debated over because of their importance and danger to society and Earth.
Some ethical questions regarding nuclear weapons are:
Is using a nuclear weapon morally permissible under some circumstances?
Is it ethical to implement nuclear deterrence (threatening to use atomic weapons) as a self-defense strategy?
If technology goes out of existence over time, why do we still have nuclear weapons after the Cold War?
Can it ever be right to launch a nuclear attack against civilians?
