Speech-Language Department

The Camp Verde Unified School District Speech-Language Department is dedicated to supporting students' communication skills so they can successfully access, participate in, and benefit from their educational programs. Effective communication is essential for academic achievement, social interaction, self-advocacy, and lifelong success. Our team works collaboratively with students, families, educators, and related service providers to develop communication skills that promote meaningful participation in school and community settings.

The Speech-Language Department is comprised of a highly qualified team of three Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and two Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) who serve students across all district campuses and programs. Together, the team provides a continuum of services designed to address the unique communication needs of students from preschool through high school.

Speech-language services are provided to students whose communication difficulties adversely impact their educational performance and who require specially designed instruction or related services as determined through the special education evaluation and eligibility process. Areas of support may include articulation and speech sound production, language development, expressive and receptive language skills, social communication and pragmatic language, fluency, voice, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and functional communication skills.

The Speech-Language Department conducts comprehensive speech and language evaluations to assist multidisciplinary teams in determining eligibility for special education services and related supports. Through collaboration with parents, teachers, and other professionals, the team gathers and analyzes information to identify communication strengths and areas of need. Evaluation results are used to develop individualized recommendations and educational programming that support student growth and success.

In addition to direct therapy services, speech-language professionals collaborate with general and special education staff to integrate communication supports within the classroom environment. The department provides consultation, progress monitoring, staff training, and recommendations regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, and communication supports that help students access the curriculum and engage with their peers.
