The Camp Verde Unified School District Occupational Therapy Department is committed to supporting students in developing the functional skills necessary to access, participate in, and benefit from their educational programs. Occupational therapy services in the school setting focus on helping students build the skills needed for successful engagement in academic activities, school routines, social interactions, and daily educational tasks.
The Occupational Therapy Department is comprised of one Occupational Therapist (OT) and one Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) who work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, administrators, and related service providers throughout the district. Together, they provide specialized support designed to promote student independence and success within the educational environment.
Occupational therapy is provided as a related service when a student's disability impacts their ability to access or participate in their educational program. Services are individualized and designed to address educationally relevant needs that may affect a student's performance in the classroom and school setting. Areas of support may include fine motor development, visual-motor integration, handwriting, sensory processing, self-regulation, adaptive skills, organization, classroom participation, assistive technology, and access to educational materials and environments.
The Occupational Therapy Department conducts evaluations and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to identify functional strengths and areas of need. Assessment information helps teams determine how a student's disability impacts educational performance and whether occupational therapy services are necessary to support access to the curriculum and school activities. Recommendations are based on data, observations, educational impact, and collaboration with school staff and families.
Occupational therapy services may be delivered through direct intervention, consultation, collaborative classroom support, environmental adaptations, and recommendations for accommodations and assistive technology. The Occupational Therapist and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant work closely with educators to embed strategies and supports within natural school environments, helping students develop skills that transfer across educational settings and daily routines.
The Camp Verde Unified School District Occupational Therapy Department is dedicated to providing evidence-based, student-centered services that enhance participation, independence, and educational success. Through collaboration, problem-solving, and individualized support, the department strives to remove barriers to learning and empower students to reach their fullest potential within the school community.
