Understanding Financial Aid

FAFSA will open on or before December 31st, 2023!

Even though the FAFSA is delayed there is an important step you can complete now to be prepared for the launch. In order to file the FAFSA one or both parents plus child will need to set up a FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID). This is a username and password that you will use to fill out and sign the FAFSA form. This step is important to do now because it can take 3-5 days to process. Also, don't forget to write your information down, as you will use the same FSA ID every year to file the FAFSA. If you have an older child that has filed the FAFSA in the past, your may already have an FSA ID. The same ID for each of your child's FAFSA.

If you want help filing the FAFSA, ICAN is now scheduling appointments. You must have a FSA ID prior to this appointment.  Visit www.ICANsucceed.org and click Schedule an Appointment, selecting a date after January 3, 2024. If you are interested in one of the three state schools, your appointment should be in January because their priority date for FAFSA is February 1. This means you should have your FAFSA submitted by February 1. The ICAN link above also provides additional information about the financial aid process.
